Good Day all,

Okay, I've got what will probably be a simple question, but I haven't seen an answer anyplace, unless I'm missing something blatantly obvious -- which is very possible. ;)

I've got a Hughes SD-DVR40 S2 DirecTiVo, running 6.2.01-2-351, that I'm going to upgrade from the original 40GB HD to a 120GB drive, and then add Network accessability and some of the extra features with PTVNet. I know I can do the PTVNet + InstantCake thing, which would give me a new, blank bare drive to start from, but I'm trying to preserve my shows/season passes/etc.

I don't plan to reuse that original HD (I'm going to store it in the closet in case I ever have problems), so I don't really want to just add the new drive to the TiVo, which I understand would let me keep my shows, but would pair the drives and so that if one died, they'd both be shot, which I don't want.

Is there any way to create a backup of my original TiVo HD, dump that onto the new 120GB drive, and then PTVNet that drive, thereby preserving my recordings and settings, etc?

Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question here, but I'm fairly new to the whole upgrading TiVo thing, and haven't seen any comments about this on the forums here. FWIW, I'm fairly computer-savvy, and have worked w/ linux before, so I'm not averse to command-line if need be.

Thanks!

MrSpock
