It would be helpful to have a comprehensive list of all the software that's pre-installed with the PTVupgrade, where it's installed, and what directories are created...

...just in case I decide to go further with additional TIVO "improvements."

I don't want to install anything that might cause conflicts with what's already installed.

The documentation mentions some packages very clearly, but their are references to other misc. apps and hacks.

Thanks

Yes, I know... I intend to document things further; just an issue of priorities.

All PTVupgrade modifications are installed in the following directories:

/ptvupgrade
/init
/etc/rc.d
and the test.conf file

If you are going to make modifications to the software, be very careful to understand what is going on there before you do so. We'll try to document what we can, but we won't take responsibility for what you might end up doing that could render your TiVo unbootable, its simply "insurance" we can't afford to offer under any circumstance...

Thanks - that's a big help already.

I've read so much in the last three days my head hurts. I'm being careful - allowing all of the info to sink in.

I've gotten to the point that I need to look into the patch to handle the scrambling issue. Just wanted to make sure you guys didn't install anything that might conflict.

Good... No we didn't... You are talking about modifying tivoapp; just be sure to make a backup copy of it before you do so... You should be fine...

Yes. Thanks.

It's probably a bit out-of-thread, but can I verify something else with you?

It appears to me that modifying tivoapp is a simple patch (one liner or with hex editor), but there appears to be other support apps like cyphercheck.tcl and csoscout.tcl. Am I correct that those are simply support and verification tools, and are not required as part of the tivoapp modification process?

And any mfs_* tools are simply for getting previously scrambled files. Also not required once the patch is in place (if you don't want your old scrambled files)?

Thanks for confirmation - I won't bother you again with this stuff. :o

Way off-topic. No idea what you are talking about.

Alphawolf posted directions. Here:::

http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31213&highlight=HEX

The directions and the codes for your unit if it's still a 3.1.1.e as is mine are:

cd /tvbin
mv tivoapp tivoapp.tmp
cp tivoapp.tmp tivoapp
chmod 755 tivoapp
# this next one is all on one line....
echo -ne "\x3C\x02\x00\x00" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=6500332

Tjen reboot.

Here is the code you need. Can you tell me what you did to get Tyserver working.

echo -ne "\x3C\x02\x00\x00" | dd conv=notrunc of=tivoapp bs=1 seek=10705308

Got this from this link on DealDatabase
