Help! I am trying to find the most cost effective way to purchase a DVR that will work with my basic Time Warner Cable and I need to learn about DVR- We watch very little t.v. in our home but would like to record a couple of my 4 year old sons favorite programs ( We would not mind being able to also record Fox's new season of 24 when it starts!!) Can anyone help educate me?? when I contacted Time Warner they said it would cost $15.98 a month to lease a DVR from them- I started to wonder if it would be more cost effective to purchase a DVR- I found a Toshiba DVR 610 for about $150- will that DVR work with my cabel company on a basic Sony Television??? I just know there is a DVR wizard out there who can advise this poor technically challeged female!! Thank You!

Hey everyone. Im new at this but have done a lot of research and cant find what Im looking for. Im looking for a dvd player with a hard drive that I can hook up to a computer and store movies and pictures on. Buying a HTPC is going to cost too much and I dont want to have to use a mouse and keyboard. Almost like a big Ipod without the screen and a dvd player. Does such a thing exist? If not, how do we make one and make millions!!? Thank you in advance. Gmit

DirecTV to FIOS

I've had DirecTV for several years (switched from Dish Network), have upgraded my DVRs to larger disks (but never got the MRV working!). Verizon has just upgraded my neighborhood to Fios and is offering a package of phone, internet and TV that is ~$50/mo cheaper than what I'm now paying for phone, DSL & DirecTV. The old copper phone lines here needed to be replaced 10 years ago, so this part is a welcome upgrade. Also, the internet connection will be almost 10X faster! Has anyone had experience with the Fios TV offering? Their multi room viewing DVR sounds pretty nice (and easy!). The biggist drawback I see is the small size of their DVR hard drives. Only 80 hours standard & 18 hours HD. I don't have HD yet so 80 hours is semi OK but I presently have ~ 300 hours on my Samsungs. Can these Fios DVRs be upgraded? Also, Verizon presently only rents their equipment. Is there a source for purchasing compatable DVRs? Thanks!

I have a Wharfedale DVDR24HD. http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores... For the last few mounths it's been playing up. I'll be recording something and everything is fine untill it gets to the point of ending the recording and it will say 'failed to stop recording' and won't of recorded it. Which is so annoying! Not only that but the disk won't record again afterwards. (Even more annoying!) Sometimes it won't let me erase the disks either. It works erasing them on my laptop but I don't really wont to risk using the disk again if the DVR seems to find it faulty. It's started happening a lot more often over the last few weeks and it's at the point where it's just not reliable anymore. Is there a way to fix this? Is it just that mine must have broke? Is it worth getting a new one or would I be better off getting a different DVR? If so, any ideas? What's good atm? Thank you for your help! (That is if you do, of course.) P.S. It is the DVR that is faulty, not the disks isn't it. I really doubt it is the disks though, I've used quite alot of them and...

Hi, I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD, I wanted to take files from its hard drive and burn them onto a dvd using an external dvd recorder, I had a few questions about this process. 1. How do I hook up the DVR to the DVD recorder? 2. I am using component cables (to get an HD signal) to connect my High definition tv to my Scientific atlanta DVR, If i use composite cables to connect my dvd recorder to the dvr (which only give a digital signal, NOT HD), will there be problems when i record to dvd? 3. I am using easy setup mode on my dvr and everything is displayed in 1080i, will this be a problem when recording? 4. Do i need a specific type of dvd recorder? I was looking into the following: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10085730&catid=20210&logon=&langid=EN&test%5Fcookie=1 should it be sufficient to record files? thank you

I just wanted to know if I can use a different software than the one that came with the TV capturer to use it, so that I could perhaps add functionalities to it, like SAP, decoding encoded (pay-per-view) channels, etc. Any ideas, guys? I was thinking of putting in a new hard drive with Instant cake, since my assumtion is that the Hard drive failed. Is there any way that I can remove and view programs that were on the dead tivo drive?

I am new to this and am having issues getting my Trendnet USB adapter working. I have a HR10-250 version 6.3 with PTVNET HD 6.3. I purchased the Trendnet adapter from DRV Upgrade with my PVT software. I installed the software on my drive, reinstalled the drive, connected the Trendnet adapter to my HR10-250, and ran a wire to my router. I powered up the Tivo and all of the channels are working. On the Trendnet adapter only the 100Mbs light comes on, and the Link light is off. I checked my router DHCP client list and it does not see the Tivo. I amnot sure if the Tivo is not connecting to the Trendnet, or if the router is not finding the Tivo. Can someone help me understand how to gett hese talking?
