I have a DVR through DirecTV. I have temporarily suspended my DirecTV service for 3 months, until my house is built. Can I hook up my DVR to a TV and watch the shows that are recorded on it without having satellite service? How? I'm staying with a friend who has UVERSE if that can help in any way.

Adding a Used Receiver

I am a bit of a novice and have aquestion that I am hoping somone can answer for me. I am a DirectTV customer and I currently have 3 televisions with recievers. One television is HD and the otehr two are standard def. On the HD TV I have an HD-DVR reciever, on another tv, I have a DVR and on the third I have a standard no frills reciever, all purchased/leased from DirectTV. I just bought another HD TV and wondered if I could by a used HD/DVR reciever from either Craigslist or Ebay and replace the stanbdard no frills reciever. Would this work without involving DirectTV or would I have to be charged for adding HD/DVR service to a third television?I hope this makes sense and someone can help me out. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it. Scott scott.chrismer@gmail.com

Three years ago, with the help of this forum, I upgraded my RCA DVR 40. I had the 6.2 software and had networking up and going and was able to use the HMO feature. Over the years, I found I rarely used that feature and during a furniture re-arrangement I didn't even bother to hook up the network. In the meantime, it automatically downloaded and installed the 6.4 version of the software which seems to have disabled all the networking capabilities. How do I get them back? I now have a second DVR (this one is an RCA DRV 39) that I plan to upgrade, and would like to enable to Multi Room Viewing on both. What's the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

We recently had DirecTV installed in our home: one HD DVR in our family room (Model HR23-HD) and a regular definition DVR in our bedroom (MOdel R15??). Does anyone know how we can access recordings on our bedroom DVR that we have set-up our family room DVR to record? In other words, how can we synchronize our DVRs to "speak" with each other or have "shared memory"? Thanks a lot! Dave

The DVR that Time Warner Cable gave me has a USB port on the front, 2 FireWire 400 ports in the back, and a eSATA port in the back. I've read in a few places that there is currently no way of transferring recorded videos from the DVR to some sort of removable media, like a external hard drive or USB thumb drive, but I don't think they knew about the DVR itself. So, is there a way to do this? Just curious. If there is, then great. If not, then would taking the hard drive from the DVR and putting it into my computer do anything, or is the file system on a DVR's hard drive different?

PXE booting of Instant Cake iso images?

Well, I guess it had to happen. I was a happy lifetime sub series 1 owner and only had to deal with philips and sony instant cake cds. I've moved to directv and through friends and ebay have a sony t60 and a hughes hdvr2 and of course, I need more storage and networking so it's time for some cake. Unless you have a PC set aside with the specific master slave setup needed by cake, you have to tear apart a pc. In the interest of science (or laziness), I would much prefer to do this through PXE. I've done a fair amount of PXE but not messed around with the little/big endian disc imaging process and could see this easily burning a day of time when I'm supposed to be working. Does anyone have any experience making this work? Thanks, Alan

When the satelite company hooked up their HDMI cable to my TV the DVR blew up( inside the box-burn"t plastic smell-not an actual explosion though). The service tech had his hand shocked and my TV will not turn on. This is a 2 week old TV. Any Ideas?

I recently relocated my DVR from my bedroom to my DEN. When the tech came out and installed it, the DVR was working fine. It was a refurbished unit. Two days later I come home and I hear this high pitched sound...the fan in the back of the unit is very loud and spinning very fast. I try turning on the unit and nothing happens. I call direct TV and they send me out another unit.....I install it and 1 day later the same thing happens I call direct TV again and now I am assigned a case manager. They tell me they will send me a newer model DVR (a black one as opposed to the silver ones I was receiving) It comes....and for 2 days everything is ok. All of a sudden the fan comes on again and this time the unit cycles itself on and off over and over again...total malfunction. Cannot do anything with the DVR I call direct TV again and they send out a MASTER TECHNICIAN who has been doing this for 10 years. He give me a NEW (NOT REFURBUSHED) DVR. Works great for 4 days and now the same thing.....fan is in...

I have two questions about the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR as provided by Comcast. -Can the internal hard drive be upgraded much like can be easily done with the Tivo HD machine? -Is the internal hard drive a pata or sata interface? For HD service to a second TV in the house, I am trying to decide beyween a second Tivo HD or the much less expensive Comcast provided SA 8300HD. However, unless I can significantly increase the size of the internal hard drive, like I did with the Tivo HD, the 8300HD will not work for us. I do not want to use an external esata device.

We have a dual tuner Motorola DVR from Comcast which has a tendency to lag behind remote control commands, particularly when you are trying NOT to delete a program. Does anyone know if there is a way to recover a program after an (unintentional) deletion? I am assuming that it does actually wipe it but just opens up the space for new recordings. I know a preschooler and a toddler who will love you forever if you can help!

Hello, I'm new here so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I just upgraded to High Def with Dish Network and I want to get a External Hard Drive for my DVR. Preferably 1 TB. Dish has a link to Seagate hard Drives but they are nearly 200 bucks for 1 TB. I'd like to find one much cheaper. Maybe around 100-115$ if possible. Does anyone out there know of the best affordable drives that are compatible with Dish network DVR receivers? Thanks My Reciever is the: HD SOLO DVR VIP-612 It only gets 30 hours HD recording and 200 Hours SD. So you see why I need an upgrade. Does anyone know how much extra HD recording time 1 TB will get?
