When I bought it the salesman ( who wanted the sale ) said sure, I could do that. Not mentioning that there was a HUGE fee to subscribe to Tivo. . . I don't need to pay $12 a month for a TV Guide. By NOT subscribing my Tivo refuses to work . . . Is there a way to bypass the subscription and just record programs over the air ? Thanks in advance for any help. RCA DVR80 Got it off of ebay *WORKS!* yeah right.. when i got it. it booted and loaded tivo but thats all.. "clear and erase all" asked for a parental code i didn't have, so i took the drive out of it partitioned and formatted it, the hard drive seems to be in working order but my instantcake cd wouldnt work in my desktop tower.. keyboard wasnt detected (tried 3 differnt keyboards.. vmlinux mustn't like the tower) took an old 333mhz tower from my basement keyboard was found instacake said it was succesfull but the motherboard didnt have the "missing pin" in the ide socket. so i removed it so my ide cable would work.. the hdd is still way too big for the old bios to detect it.. but instacake seems to find it alright. instacake restores the image and says it was successful but my tivo just reboots after maybe a minute or two.. so i went back to istacake and bought 6.2a and it does the same thing.. now before i break down and buy a hdd from weaknees i want to make sure i didnt miss something. or if i... I know I can rent a Scientific Atlanta DVR from TWC for a monthly rate of $9.00. I also realize that the 40gig HD of this unit should probably be upgraded. Does anyone have a cost to upgrade presuming that it could be modified to not require a TIVO registration. I got a Philips Series 1 Tivo with 2 hard drives in it (60gb & 120gb). The bearings are going out of the 60gb (very loud). Is there a way to go back to a single drive unit with what I have? What I'm hoping I can do is make the unit a single drive unit using the 60gb system. Then copy/Ghost the 60gb to the 120gb an just keep the 60gb as a backup. It is just running mfsadd -r 4 -x /dev/hdc /dfv/hdd With the old A drive at secondary master and the new B drive in secondary slave. It completed fine reporting the ond and new recording times. However, after installing the drives in TiVo and powering up. I get "your recorder is starting up Please wait a moment" screen then the "Almost there - a few more seconds please" screen. Then a few flashes and back to "Your recorder is starting..........." After removing the new Drive B and attempting to run using Drive A only - problem is still present.
