I have a 80gb dish network PVR reciever that is a few years old that I bought for my parents. They don't use it, and I was wondering if there is any way to flash it and use it as a PVR for cable. The reciever model number is dishpvr508, and I have comcast cable. Thanks for your help.

TVGOS Gone For Good??

Two weeks ago my Panasonic DMR E85H stopped getting programming information (TVGOS) from my Suddenlink cable system. After much calling around, I've learned that PBS or the cable company stopped sending that, and it's not coming back, at least in the analog format that my DVR can read. Does that sound right? I guess I'll just bite the bullet and get a Tivo.

Time block recording?

I am pulling my local digital channels through my DISH receiver. Is there a way with my DVR, to simply record from, say, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM such as done with the old VCRs? I simply want to record an hour block off my locals, but with no channel guide (since I am direct and not subscribing to the locals through DISH) there is no individual programming listed. Thanks....

Recording Digital Video to a DVR and playing on a TV?

I am a volleyball coach and I need to figure out how to set up a digital video system that provides immediate feedback to players. I would like to record digital video on a Handycam HD, record the digital clips to a DVR, and play delayed images on a TV. I've been told at coaching clinics that others have done this, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I tried using a Tivo and learned that what I am trying to do is not supported by Tivo. I searched the Tivo Community site and I still haven't had any luck. I did find a very, very expensive system that does exactly what I need, but it requires a PC. Are there any other DVR's out there that will work?

TIVO VS DVR FOR PARENTS

My siblings and I are thinking of Mom's Day and Fathers Day gifts and are exploring a TIVo or DVR (through AT&T Cable). They have cable tv and internet, but did not want to pay the extra $$ for the DVR option. They are like typical parents in their early 70's, and have shows and sports games they like to watch; however they are very active with their church and volunteer work and sometimes hate to miss their shows/games. They are NOT technical savvy - and need basic intstrutions. If the children were going to gift one or the other, which would you recommend - TIVO or DVR - ease of use and cost?

Need Help: How to Recover deleted home movies from Phillips DVR

I have a Phillips DVR, the hard drive works fine. I thought that I had recorded the movies onto the computer but they were not properly saved. I deleted the home movies from the DVR with the remote the normal way, made sure not to overwrite the deleted files on the hard drive of the DVR. Have tried a few recover software that has not worked. I had used ubuntu linux OS disc to run the OS from the CD ROM on my computer and had the DVR hard drive wired into my computer. I cannot seem to find the deleted movie files on the DVR hard drive but it will show up all of the other files. Also, the problem could have been that I was logged in under the Ubunt as a usr and not as root, it had asked for a password but unsure of what or where I could find that.

We currently have Dish Network. We are going to have to cancel it due to the economy. We plan to put up an antenna. We would like a DVR so we can still record our shows, my husband is gone so much that he would miss his shows, he is a trucker. This is where we need help. Is there an affordable DVR or TiVo with no monthly fee and no phone line required? We can't hook it to the computer either. I know there is one I think by Dish but I heard it not a good system with lots of trouble. Any links you may have with the unit you mention would be so very helpful. We have checked with Radio Shack and Best Buy. They either have monthly fees or require phone line. Sears has one stand alone DVR but it's over 1000.00. It needs to have a hard drive already but we don't need 200 hours of recording time. Thank you so much for any help!

Recording data from DVR to PC using Firewire

Hello all, New member here but been into video for a long time. My question is this, I have a Motorola DCT6416 III DVR from Charter Communications. I confirmed the IEEE ports are active. I have an IEEE card installed on my PC and drivers are installed so my PC recognizes my DVR when plugged in. I have browsed many outdated forums about this topic and have not had much luck. I installed CapDVHS and attempted to use this to record video from my DVR. Here's what happens, I select the DVR as the source on CapDVHS. I then press play on the DVR to playback one of my recorded shows and the instant I hit record on CapDVHS the video freezes on the DVR but CapDVHS keeps recording. When I stop recording, the video resumes on the DVR but in a different location as if it had been playing all along. What I end up with is a large file within 60 seconds of recording or so(HD quality) but when I use VLC to playback there's only about 2 seconds of video and that's about it, sometimes it doesn't recognize the file at all. Does anyone here have a...

Long story: My Mom was on a tv show (antiques road show) and I recorded in my TimeWarner Cable DVR, now I want to take i out of the DVR and make it into a DVD for my grandmother that lives in another state. My DVR is a Motorola. On the front it has a HDMI label, it also reads interactive digital communications and it has the model (?) DCT3416 i bellow that it reads "dual tuner dvr / hdtv capable." I looked under the box and it has a sticker where I found this model number: Set top box-model DCT3416 - 2300 Platform ID 704 phase 1. How can I transfer this show to my PC? Any help or guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated

Hey guys, I'm new here but I have a problem that google basically has no answer. I have a standalone nuvico nvdv4-16000N series DVR with 12 inputs for audio and video being recorded. I'm having problems converting the files from the DVR to avi (nuvico gave me a program that does this but this annoying clicking sound is produced at the final product). I need to find a way to convert the files that are sorted by .A files .V files and .I files (for audio, video and index) and compressed as a MPEG-4 compression to AVI or something that I can burn a DVD with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I just bought this unit and have some questions. #1 do you have to get a subscription service just to use basic DVR functions. #2 I noticed that it only has a modem connection can a USB 802.11 dongle be used. I just wanted a DVR that I could remotely connect to and download shows when I am away from home. I do have a slingbox tuner but no DVR I am just looking for a solution to iTunes since a lot of the shows I do watch are not on iTunes. Thanks.

However, when they rolled out the service in our area the TV service wa snot availabe yet. It FINALLY is and we are switching from DISH to FiOS TV. This is the model that records high def, let's you stream to other STB's around the house and also ties in to your PC to let you access music playlists and pictures from your PC. Now, here are my questions: 1) Can the Moto 7216 hard drive be upgraded? Or can an external port be used to add an external drive? Seriously, 160GB for HD??? Who thought of this?? Between my sports, the wife's cop dramas (and soaps, and docu dramas, and... well you get the picture) and the...
