Will You Buy A Nero LiquidTV?

Our friends over at Engadget have posted a full unboxing and hands-on sneak peek of the Nero LiquidTV , which uses the TiVo interface to record shows onto your PC. Personally, I love the relatively low price point and flexibility of the device. What do you think? Will you check out one of these, or pass it up?

I own a TiVo HD DVR and want to take advantage of the external storage option. Do you have to purchase the 500GB drive from TiVo or can you use any e-SATA drive? And does disk size matter?

TiVo coming to PC via Nero software

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/28/tivo-coming-to-pc-via-nero-software/ I wasn't sure where to put this - its really a crossing of borders. Tivo has not traditionally made money on the hardware - the bulk of the profit (such as it is) has been from the service. This would seem, in principle to be good for Tivo and good for those of us who like and are used to the Tivo interface.
TiVo has just announced an agreement with multimedia software provider Nero AG that will bring its familiar interface and feature set to the PC. According to the joint announcement made today, Nero will embed the TiVo experience in its next generation of software, allowing the millions of us who rely on USB dongles for our TV to finally join the exclusive realm of Series1, 2, and 3 owners. Plus, as Zatz Not Funny! points out , Nero's international presence should help spread TiVo to the far corners of the Earth like some digital Happy Meal. Hopefully this new PC timeshifting solution -- release window: unknown -- will also convince other purveyors of home theater-only hardware-based services to finally bring their wares to the desktop. Yes, we're looking at you, Sling .
using RCA DVR80 without Tivo service?

Hello I bought an RCA DVR80 Tivo off ebay for $20 in the hopes i could use it to record my regular tv shows, like a VCR. I don't have / don't subscribe to the Tivo service and can't really afford to right now. Is there anyway to just use the DVR80 without Tivo service? Possibly some sorta hack or mod available? When I plug it in, it says trying to find Satellite and Satellite Info, but I do not have Satellite, only regular cable tv. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Can a Series 3 Tivo or a Tivo HD record programs at ALL if you're NOT paying a monthlyfee?

OK I need to know the following: Can a Series 3 Tivo or a Tivo HD record programs at ALL if you're NOT paying the monthly service fee? I don't know anything about what exactly you can do with the Series 3 or the Tivo HD without paying the monthly fee. Can you record programs at all doing that? (by setting up the recordings manually; specifiying a start/stop time for each program) oh and BTW does the Tivo HD have Composite video (yellow plug only) AND RF (like a Coaxial post) output? or ONLY High Definition type outputs? .

I saw a new TiVo website and thought i'd just pass this by - might be worth checking out as you could win a new TiVo HD and lifetime subscription -- hookupwithtivo.com. All you have to do is impress the host of the Bachelor, Chris Harrison, with a personal ad showing how much you and your HDTV deserve TiVo HD. Looks like it began today and will run through Oct. 22. Best of luck!

DirecTV HD Tivo?

Hello everyone... We are moving, so I guess it's time to upgrade to DirecTV HD. However, they don't have a box with Tivo. We really like Tivo. So my questions for the group are are: Are there no HD Tivo boxes that are compatible with DirecTV (not just now - but with all the channels they are adding? I PTVUpgraded have my current DirecTV receiver. I really like the web interface, and the ability to extract and download shows for later viewing is important. In addition, I have a couple hundred hours of disk space. Do I have to give all that up to move to HD? I am just not so sure it's worth it.....

Tivo Fall 2007 Update

I just got my "Fall 2007" service update from Tivo a few days ago. As far as I can tell, there have been two changes made: The wishlist logic has changed to allow for compound search parameters. The logical joins are pretty convoluted: instead of traditional AND, OR, NOT operators, Tivo uses "Required", "Excluded", and "Optional"). Nice to have compound logic, but it seems a little clunky. All my fonts and icons have changed. I guess Tivo felt they needed to update their look. Anybody else gotten the update yet? Besides these two changes, have you noticed anything else that changed?

TiVoToGo and Multi-Room Viewing Return!

Originally, Series 3 and HD TiVos shipped without two key components... TiVoToGo and Multi-Room Viewing (MRV). This November, the latest in TiVo's line will get them back. Check out this (lengthy) thread on the TiVo Community. In the thread, Bob Pony (TiVo representative) makes the following statement... I know you've been anxiously awaiting TiVoToGo and Multi-Room Viewing on your Series3 and TiVoHD boxes. I wanted to let you know that development has been progressing smoothly, and all is well. You can expect TTG & MRV to be available for Series3 and TiVoHD this November. These features will provide support for video transfers between Series3 & Series2 systems and between a Series3/Series2 system and a PC. High Definition content will not be supported for transfer or playback on a Series2 system (Series2's just can't play HD), and copy-protected High Def or Standard Def content cannot be transferred (same as our current Series2 products).

Swap HR10-250 for R15

I am getting D* installed with the R15-500 DVR in the near future. Last night a friend gave me a HR10-250 (w/out a HD). If I use InstantCake on a HD and install that in the HR10, can I merely put that in place of the R15? I am looking for the added benefit of HD DVR and component outputs to attach to my 720p LCD. If not, is it possible to use the HR10-250 w/out D* for OTA HD as an HD DVR. I know no satelite or TIVO service is possible. I just want to use my local TV listings in the paper and the Manual Record/Time functionality (like a VCR) to record OTA broadcasts? Note no satellite cables would be attached in this case as this would be a different TV in a different room with only OTA. Thanks.

At $300, TiVo HD is definitely on my short-list of cool toys! There was no way I was going to fork over $400-700 on one, but at least this time it's affordable. Plus, this one's got a better processor in it than the Series 3 does. Anyone else going to bite the bullet on this one? If you do, I suggest picking it up from DVRupgrade . I trust their site, plus Lou and the guys give great support.
