I own a TiVo HD DVR and want to take advantage of the external storage option. Do you have to purchase the 500GB drive from TiVo or can you use any e-SATA drive? And does disk size matter?

Simple InstantCake for S2 Dual Tuner Question

I have been looking for the answer to this question and can not seem to find it. TiVo makes two models of this unit, the TCD649080 and the TCD649180. Does the same InstantCake iso file work for both of these units?

IC PC hardware requirements

Got a bit of confusion here, I have a HR10-250 that has a crashed hard drive, D* is going to replace it but will not get the unit unti wed-thur of next week. Wife is not a happy camper with 3 kids:) D* does not want the HR10 back, so I am wanting to try the drive build using IC to see if I can get the system up and running while we wait for the new one. The instructions are straight forward, but the one issue that I can't find is the PC requirements for this. I have current technology machines but would rather not disassmble them to do this. I do have a old Dell XPS-R450 in the junk box (yes I am a packrat). Given the age of this box I am pretty sure it does not have large hard drive support, I am planning on replacing the failed drive in the HR10 with a 320 GB ATA 133 that I have available. Will the fact that this PC does not have large format drive support cause an issue on the running of IC? Would like to save my wife's sanity and my peace of mind by...

Is 3.1.5f InstantCake still available for the HR10-250?

I have a couple of HD Tivos (Hughes HR10-250) - one is locked on 3.1.5f and PTVNet and is rock solid. The other has no hacks, but has had upgraded hard drives in it and is now on 6.3.??? and is not stable at all. The drive tests good it seems to be the software. I can put them OEM drive back in it (pre-3.1.5f software) and then let it call in and try to get the 3.1.5f update then block it from calling in to get anything newer - OR I could just pay $20 and download a 3.1.5f instant cake ISO and put it right on the version I want and be done with it. I have been upgrading Tivos with free tools for years - all the way back to my S1 stand alone, but I don't mind paying to simplify things - as I did with the PTVnet ISO. Except, the note for the IC 3.1.5f versions say: InstantCake for these units is now shipping with 6.2a of the system software; this software includes updates for the recent DST changes - but later it says: This version of InstantCake will prepare your drive with version 3.1.5f...

Which InstantCake for HR10-250

Well, I just bought myself a stock HR10-250 on eBay. I figured it would be a good idea to start it's new life with us with a new hard drive, and while I'm doing that I thought I'd bump it up to a nice 500GB. So, my question is- which version of InstantCake do I want with this? I'm not really interested in networking this (I have a nicely hacked GXCEBOT with a CacheCard for that kind of thing), this is going to be the main family Tivo, so I'm really just interested in some extra room and stability. From reading the descriptions it looks like the 3.1.5f Standard is the one I'm looking for, is there any advantage/disadvantage of this over the 6.3d? As I said, this is going to be the main Tivo, and as my family have been through a few sessions of Tivos crashing on them while I fussed with the GXCEBOT, stability is crucial. Thanks muchly in advance, and as a last thing- is there a 500GB drive you'd recommend/stay away from? I'm leaning towards the Seagate Barracuda as I like the 16MB cache and the 5 year warranty.

Can I run qunlock off of universal boot cd?

I purchased the Universal Boot CD under the impression that I'd be able run qunlock off of the cd. However, I cannot figure out how to do so and do not see qunlock in any of the directories on the CD. I don't have a working floppy drive, so I can't run qunlock, diskutil, etc. off of the floppy, so right now I'm SOL. I just need to unlock my drive so that I can install cachecard drivers and then make my daily updates via ethernet. Can anyone help me?

RCA DVR40 modem failure

I have an RCA DVR40 with two IC baked drives with total capacity of 191 hours recording time. However the modem has failed and I cant make PPV orders anymore, I get the ext 733 error. I have a second RCA DVR40 I purchased used and it works fine including the modem. Can I move my IC baked drives to this DVR and do a clear and delete, and then run guided setup, or are the drives married to the first DVR. Any avvice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Doc
