Newbie wants to learn about TiVo DIY drives & networks

Somewhat mechanically (& digitally) inclined newbie looking for advice on how to copy my play lists from a dying DirectTV HR10-250, how to upgrade using DIY software, and how to network (activate the usb ports) on all 3 of my HR10-250's. Can anyone show me where to start?

Ptvnet - stuck in reboot

I have a New-to-Me Phillips DSR7000. new original disc, version 6.4. Went though the guided set up, and first phone call and activiation, then I used MFStools to expand to a 750 drive. Pulled and booted in the Tivo... all good. Ran the PTVNET with success on the 750gb drive, replaced to the Tivo, and it is in a reboot loop... I've checked the cables and pulled the power a couple of times, not luck.

I have Time Warner's HD DVR service, and I have a rather annoying problem. The machine always cuts off the the last minute or so of every show I record. Why does this happen, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

Turn Cable Box into personal DVR

A certain cable company forgot to pick up their cable box, and have not mentioned anything to me about it for several months now. So I'm assuming its not important to them, and can now claim it as my own. So here is my question, can I turn it into a personal DVR? Brand: Scientific Atlanta 8300HDC I am proficient with computers, and willing to do what it takes. Is there a software/hardware/firmware hack/format/install that I can do to make it work as a personal DVR instead of the cable box/dvr it was intended for? Any help much appreciated!

Rebuilt TiVo wont change channels

Hi: My TiVo hard drive recently bit the dust so I replaced the drive and Caked it. I have a series 2 DVR from TiVo. Everything worked fine - I ran the guided setup and have downloaded all of the programming updates from TiVo. The only problem is TiVo only show me channel 3. It looks like it is changing channels, and even the program information banner changes to the correct information for that channel. But the net result is still channel 3. Similarly, if I set TiVo to record a specific program - the timing is right but the channel is always 3. I have checked and rechecked all of my cabling to the box. I am sending cable directly from the wall, before any other cable box, DVD or device of any kind. I am only left with the software to blame. Any ideas? Thanks.

Newby HELP!!!!!!

I just bought a Philips PTV300. I thought it just needed a HD and thats it. I haven't tried anything yet, but found that I might need to plan to spend more time. Does anyone have any suggestions, step by step instructions to make this work? I know nothing about the DVR althought I'm pretty familiar with computers. Is there a manual available? Thank you szanghi@embarqmail.com
