Comcast Upgrades Motorola HD-DVRs, Adds Better Organization and New Features

Upon further investigation I discovered that none of the advanced functions of the DVR were available - no guide, no DVR menu, not even the menu. I got a picture and could change channels, but that was about it. I ultimately thought the internal hard drive failed (even though I could hear it spinning), which would explain some of the behavior I was seeing. I unplugged it a few times, let it reboot, and nothing. "Time to call Comcast," I thought... though that's certainly not something I ever look forward to. About 20 minutes later I was getting ready to pick up the phone, and then noticed the clock had returned. To my surprise, all of the features had re-appeared. The DVR, the Guide, and everything else, but with new features and enhancements. I've seen Comcast upgrade their cable boxes before, though usually with very minor upgrades. The worst was the "improvement" that added an advertisement at the bottom of my...

Time Warner Cable - DVR > PC?

The DVR that Time Warner Cable gave me has a USB port on the front, 2 FireWire 400 ports in the back, and a eSATA port in the back. I've read in a few places that there is currently no way of transferring recorded videos from the DVR to some sort of removable media, like a external hard drive or USB thumb drive, but I don't think they knew about the DVR itself. So, is there a way to do this? Just curious. If there is, then great. If not, then would taking the hard drive from the DVR and putting it into my computer do anything, or is the file system on a DVR's hard drive different?

Comcast SA 8300HD Hard Drive Upgrade

I have two questions about the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR as provided by Comcast. -Can the internal hard drive be upgraded much like can be easily done with the Tivo HD machine? -Is the internal hard drive a pata or sata interface? For HD service to a second TV in the house, I am trying to decide beyween a second Tivo HD or the much less expensive Comcast provided SA 8300HD. However, unless I can significantly increase the size of the internal hard drive, like I did with the Tivo HD, the 8300HD will not work for us. I do not want to use an external esata device.

program recovery?

We have a dual tuner Motorola DVR from Comcast which has a tendency to lag behind remote control commands, particularly when you are trying NOT to delete a program. Does anyone know if there is a way to recover a program after an (unintentional) deletion? I am assuming that it does actually wipe it but just opens up the space for new recordings. I know a preschooler and a toddler who will love you forever if you can help!

How do i transfer show out of Motorola DCT3416 i to PC?

Long story: My Mom was on a tv show (antiques road show) and I recorded in my TimeWarner Cable DVR, now I want to take i out of the DVR and make it into a DVD for my grandmother that lives in another state. My DVR is a Motorola. On the front it has a HDMI label, it also reads interactive digital communications and it has the model (?) DCT3416 i bellow that it reads "dual tuner dvr / hdtv capable." I looked under the box and it has a sticker where I found this model number: Set top box-model DCT3416 - 2300 Platform ID 704 phase 1. How can I transfer this show to my PC? Any help or guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated

Need Help with Comcast Motorola DCT3412

I'm currently a Comcast customer with a DCT3412 - HD - DVR. I'd like to expand the recording capacity of the disk... or even have the ability to record from it (as yet another way to bank more programs). I cannot find much data on this Motorola model....except that I don't have any options. Anyone able to advise...? Thanks
