DVR with Voice Activation Has anybody been able to use voice activation or speech recognition to record programs? I'm working on setting this up and writing a thesis for my Master's degree at NYU. If you're interested in the topic, please help by completing my survey on SurveyMonkey. I'm hoping to generate interest so that we can keep improving the devices we love to use... Here's the URL: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=d4YVs27F_2bRrosVtYBQ0FIw_3d_3d

Want cheap External HardDrive for Dish HD SOLO DVR VIP 612 Receiver?

Hello, I'm new here so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I just upgraded to High Def with Dish Network and I want to get a External Hard Drive for my DVR. Preferably 1 TB. Dish has a link to Seagate hard Drives but they are nearly 200 bucks for 1 TB. I'd like to find one much cheaper. Maybe around 100-115$ if possible. Does anyone out there know of the best affordable drives that are compatible with Dish network DVR receivers? Thanks My Reciever is the: HD SOLO DVR VIP-612 It only gets 30 hours HD recording and 200 Hours SD. So you see why I need an upgrade. Does anyone know how much extra HD recording time 1 TB will get?

Dishnet DVR

Hello all. I am new to this site so I am not sure if I am posting in the right section or not. My parents have a dishnet dvr, one box that operates 2 t.v.s and it is 3 or 4 years old. I believe the hard drive in it may be going out. Can the hard drive be replaced. I have not opened the box up or anything I was just wondering if it could be done. I told them to contact dishnet about it, but my parents said they would have to buy a new box and they don't have the money, my dad is disabled and my mom's work is slow. I'd like to fix it for them if it is possible. Any comments would be appreciated.

Set which Tv1-2 to record to

I have a Dish 625 DVR. It controls the TV in the Family room (Tv1) and the TV in the Bedroom (Tv2). We generally watch TV1 until 9pm and then watch TV2 (at bed time, etc) Now if I want to record a show and it is on at say 7pm, I want to record it on the TV not being watched (i.e. TV2). If the Program is after say 9pm, I want to make it record on TV1. How can I set which TV to record a program on when setting up the recorder? Can I tell the system to move a timer to a different TV after it is set up? I believe there is a Default setting I can change, but I want to control each new timer based on when the program airs.

Did My Satellite Box Cause My TV to Fail?

Question: I have a RCA 1985 console TV in excellant condition. After the satellite guy hooked up my new DirecTV receiver, all worked fine. Later that same evening, I was watching TV and heard a couple of crackles or pops, and the TV screen is now a greenish/snowy with horizontal lines in it. You can hear sound fine, and maybe a little figure movement on the screen, but no more pops and no more picture. I know it's heading down the tubes, but any help would be appreciated. I just wanted to check if it's something that the sat box caused, the tech that hooked it up, or maybe it was the wave of technology. -submitted by mfriz121 Answer: If the output on the satellite box is routed through a VCR, you may want to check that the VCR is turned off while the satellite box is in use, which could cause a problam similar to what you're describing. Only a possibility, but probably not what happened in your case. The crackles and pops are more concerning, which indicates the set is failing. It seems unlikely that connecting a satellite receiver to a TV...
