TiVo problems-help

Being from the land down under we have constant issues with technology and its delivery. Lets face it we are either a dumping ground for technology that didn't work or is last years model. We also have all sorts of issues with mass medias owners control of content including PPVR's ability to skip adds and download issiues. Anyway was wanting to ask all the TiVo users if you have issues with this platforms stability. Bought the 160gig model plus 1tb expander about 6 months ago as this was all that was on offer and the unit had remote control problems and the expander drive failed losing all content. Took some time to replace as local support don't engage with customers very well. Finally received a replacement and this has also failed, this time losing around 30/40 shows. Once again Tivo support have been very hard to get in touch with. Out of 9 people I personally know who have bought these units, only two are still working reliably-sure this must suggest stability issues with the platform. Can anyone shed any light here-Tivo don't seem too interested in getting in touch thats for sure

Dave Zatz of Zatz Not Funny reports that the newest update to these units introduces the pause menu ads. This way, you can watch more ads while you skip others! Fortunately, TiVoCommunity member bfdtv reports that there is a way to hide the progress bar and avoid the additional ads. Sweet... click through to learn more! [Via Engadget]

A TiVo Remote For Your iPhone... Only A Dollar

Even the dollar menu at many restaurants is actually the dollar-twenty-nine menu. No more 2 for 2 Big Macs either. But in the tech world, apparently, you still can get something meaningful and tasty for a buck... how about a TiVo Remote application for your iPhone? It isn't made by TiVo, so don't expect official support - and it's not overly pretty either... but reportedly, it gets the job done. This third party app even has a search function built in. You can control your TiVo Series 3, HD, or HD XL with this. Pretty cool! [ http://www.meer.net/users/dougt/tivo_remote/]

This is where TiVo Search comes in to save my day. The exciting new feature displays in HD and can seek out content you didn't even knwo you could get, from lots of providers such as YouTube and Amazon Video on Demand. You can search a lot of different ways; either by phrases, keywords, or even album art. Today, that partnership bears fruit, in the form of Netflix goodness on your TiVo box. Specifically, subscribers of both Netflix and TiVo services, who are using a TiVo® Series3, TiVo HD, or TiVo HD XL box, will be able to stream thousands of TV shows and movies. You can add movies or shows through the Netflix online interface or right through the TiVo, and you get complete control to rewind, fast forward, and pausing as well. As if we weren't lazy enough, and didn't go through too much Dominos as it is - it's now guaranteed that we'll be permanent couch potatoes!
