You now can view the shows recorded on any of the DirecTV HR2* DVRs with the DIRECTV2PC application.
AFIK you still cannot transfer the actual recordings to your PC.
The DIRECTV2PC application can be found at http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4920044
OK. I have done some cursory looking around and it seems to me that if I have a DirecTV DVR (the one that came out with the 70 hour hard drive, not the Tivo one) I cannot transfer the programs that I have stored there directly to a computer or a DVD. However, I could use the record to VCR feature to record to a TV Tuner on a PC or to a DVD Recorder. Is that correct? As I understand it the recorded files are encrypted so that even if I hooked the DVR to a PC the files would not be viewable. Can anyone set me straight here? I would like to archive some recorded footage. I find it hard to believe that this is not possible. Thanks for any guidance you might be able to give me. (I am nowhere on this, so please don't assume I know stuff if you are relaying a solution. Thanks from the idiot.)
