I need advise on an inexpensive DVR solution that would meet the following functions.

1. Able to schedule the TV program for recording.

2. Record to either hard disk or DVD media.

3. Able to record from cable programing.

4. I do not want to have pay for a monthly subscription for Tivo programing.

Are there any inexpensive Tivo models that can be used in the above methods with paying for a monthly subscription?
