I have a tivo series 2 that my brother-in-law replaced the hard drive in.   The tivo was constantly freezing up so we finally ordered the tivo replacement drive and replaced it.

Well now we are having another problem, the tivo keeps rebooting itself constantly.  I had never seen this happen before the drive was replaced but my husand said it started doing that about 2 weeks before we replaced the drive.

Is it more likely that it is a bad drive or that the power supply needs to be replaced too?  Any ideas or suggestions?

Check what level of software your box is running.

From what I have read all DirecTV Tivos, which were upgraded to 6.3e  recently, have been booting nightly ever since the upgrade.

6.3e is for DirecTiVos, not standalones.

From whom did you acquire the replacement hard disk?

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

Hard drive was purchased from Hindsdale.  Any ideas?
