Your Toshiba DVR can probably work just fine with your Dish Network service, but you can't plug the satellite line into the DVR and record; your Toshiba doesn't have a Dish Network box built in. You need to go to a Dish Network box first, then connect the output from your Dish box to your DVR. Your Toshiba probably came with an IR output to change the channel on external devices when it's time to record something, but you'll need to refer to your DVR manual for all the instructions on how to set that up.

I just got Dish Network on Saturday. I have a Toshiba DVR that I used with my old Time Warner Cable connection. I set up the DVR as directed, and it is not recording any signal - just snow.
I have a 4 TV, 2 box install, and the TV I set the DVR up on does not have one of the boxes. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
Or, as I fear, is this 3rd party DVR now useless within the Dish Network.
Thanks

Thanks Matt. One point of clarification: by "Dish Network box first" do you mean just the regular receiver box, or an actual Dish Network DVR (another $5 per month)?
Thanks again
