Have you confirmed that telnet and FTP work?

I am getting an address when I AngryScan my hacked Directivo. When I type that address into my web browser it just times out. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure I exactly know hoe to check. I have a mac and a pc, and on my mac I used a program called "Terminal". Within that program I typed telnet 192.168.1.47 and that was timed out. In my web browser I typed ftp://192.168.1.47, it eventually comes up with a field to type in a username and password. I have no idea what to type here. I forgot to mention when I use Angry Scanner to get that IP it calls my Directivo "3810000e05f9c3c". Does that make sense?
Not sure on the Mac, but for PC, use PuTTY for telnet and SmartFTP for FTP. The user name for FTP is "anonymous" (no password).
How was your TiVo hacked?

If you don't want to download any additional software before testing on a PC, both telnet and ftp can be tested from the command prompt.
I purchased a preloaded 160gig drive from DVRUPgrade. I had them put the extra networking software on for me, which was PTVnet and WebTivo. When I check telnet from a command prompt, or third party program what should I type in to check if Tivo responds for telnet? The IP address?
If you are using a PTVnet kit with TiVoWebPlus installed on it, there is no username/password for FTP or TELNET.
By specifying your IP address in your browser with the ftp:// in front of it, you are asking to connect to FTP (not TiVoWebPlus).
To connect to the web server on the TiVo (TiVoWebPlu) you should ensure you have an http:// in front of your IP address. Please see the PTVnet link below for more information. Thx

I don't get it. I've tried telnet, ftp and tivowebplus with no success. I can ping the address with success, nothng else. I wish I had just purchased the software andd put it on myself so I could retry it. Is there ANYTHING else anyone can think of? Should I just buy the software downloads and try it myself??? PLEASE HELP.

Orginally, you did say this:
"ftp://192.168.1.47, it eventually comes up with a field to type in a username and password."
That is an indication that things were working(or at least that FTP was). What did you change between then and now that would have made the difference?
This doesn't sound like its a problem with your kit, and downloading and rebuilding with the software will only introduce more variables, not less.
I think you've got a bit of troubleshooting to do on your network, or possibly your PC, before you possibly make matters worse. Since you purchased a kit, the one "given" here is that it has been configured correctly; start looking outside the TiVo and in your environment and you are likely to find the problem.

Normally, a PTVnet-modified TiVo will show up as "PTVupgrade-TiVo-Series2." Have you tried rebooting the TiVo? The alphanumeric string you posted is your TiVo service number and can appear if the network adapter was plugged in after the TiVo has already booted.

I have tried a variety of things to get this to work. I can still get a login box by typing ftp://192.168.1.47 in my web browser. If I type "anonymous" as a username with no password it just says it can't connect because the username or password is incorrect. Same holds true if I don't put anything at all. As far as the Tivo showing up with the alphanumeric string, I have rebooted the Tivo, Router and PC, numerous times in different orders and still no change in the name, TivoWebPlus, Telnet or FTP don't work. When I use Angry Scanner it definetely pulls up that alphanumeric string for my Tivo, since when I unplug it, it dissapears. However when I log into my Router it never shows up in my DHCP clients list when my computers do show up. I thought maybe it was my router so I went out and bought a Linksys WRT54G, hooked it up and had no change in status what-so-ever except my Tivo then does show up in the DHCP clients list when I log into that router, however, it still shows up as a alphanumeric string. I'm not sure what else to try, I've tried different routers, USB to Ethernet adapters, logging in from different computers, etc. One thing that I did notice right away that it seems alot of other people mentioned had happened to them, was that on the initial startup, the Tivo would reboot a couple of times. That was never the case with me. It just went through a normal startup cycle. I really appreciate the attention you have shown me thus far, and would be indebted if we could continue to figure this out. Thanx...
