HDVR2 was hacked with sleeper iso and DTivo version 3

Recent upgrade of HDVR2 with PTVNet and instantcake 6.2

Baked twice, once with USB 2 and once with USB 1.1

Same results both times:

DTivo picks up DHCP address 192.168.0.5

  can ping DTivo

portscan picks up port 21 and 110

telnet, browser, ftp, telnet (110) are never responded to (SYN) in order to establish a connection.

I believe I have a USB200M rev 1. There is no label on the adapter stating rev 2. I no longer have a box as this adapter was purchased ages ago. Am I possibly facing the rev 2 problem? Or could this be something else...I am leaning towards something else because it responds to ping and picks up its address from DHCP.

Have you booted the PTVnet cd first and then put in the cake cd when asked?

the USB200m is a USB 2.0 device, so usb 2.0 driver is the one needed.

How do you have it connected to your network, wired in or wireless through a  bridge?

There are 3 ways of telling if it's a version 1 or v2.  The v1 adapter will just say usb200m.  The v2 adapters are also shorter than the v1 adapters (I know that may not help if you only have 1 adapter, but the v2's are the size as usb100m (usb 1.1 dongles). If you bought the adapter recently, it's a v2 or v2.1.

So, it sounds like you have the correct adapter, but might have other problems.  It could be a bad network cable.  Even if it worked before, sometimes when you move cables that have been in service for a long time, they get use to being in 1 position and then they break when you hook them back up.  It might not be a bad idea to replace the ethernet cable.

Also, ensure it's plugged into your network prior to powering it on.  You could also reboot your router, that helps as well.  AngryIP scanner also is pretty helpful in finding troublesome DHCP devices too.

Yes, install was with PTVNet, then insert cacke cd.

System plugged into the network prior to boot.

Used Look@Lan to find the IP and verified it in the logs of my DHCP server.

I'm 95% confident it's version 1, and it shows a link with 100mb connection lights.  It is wired through Cat 5 patch cord (replaced) to cat 5 wiring to my basement where the hub is.  Tried moving the hub (and computer) with 2 patch cables to the living room, and still nothing.

It almost acts like iptables might be blocking incoming requests.  Is anything even remotely like this possible?

Tried rebooting the router / hub / and DHCP server - no change

Next will get a serial cable to see if I can see anything through bash.

built a serial cable mounted the tivo drive into a pc
typed: bootpage -p /dev/hdc
response was root=/dev/hda4

typed: bootpage -P "root=/dev/hda4 dsscon=true console=115200" -C /dev/hdc and verified it took with bootpage -p /dev/hdc

Was hoping to see console output...I think I might have hosed the drive because it didn't seem to boot (heard the drive spin up, but no typical see noises).  Didn't have the dtivo hooked to a TV so dont know for sure.

Did I get the bootpage command right to dump console to serial?

I have no idea on the serial stuff. I know that serial connections are already enabled with PTVnet, all you had to do was plug up the cable to the tivo and start a serial connection.

The only thing I see weird with your settings is that unless you changed the settings on your linksys router, it should be 192.168.1.x for the ip and not 192.168.0.x

You should be able to verify if it's actually in your DHCP page as it will say DVRupgrade Tivo or at the very least have the service ID in there before it changes over to DVRupgrade for the name.  Also, give it a few minutes before you attempt to connect to it.

and for ftp, telnet and tivowebplus to work, all you have to do is use teraterm plus to connect or start, run, cmd and then ftp 192.168.1.x or telnet 192.168.1.x

The other thing that is odd is your ports should be 21, 23 and 80. I'd give teraterm a try and see what you can do. That, and just start over and rebake the image again.

stivovance...thanks for all your help.

However...WTF...pay $20 ...no make that $40 and the lame scripts cant even figure out how to write a file.  Ran the scripts in a compaq presario, installed the drives exactly like the directions said and they crap all over themselves.

Ran the same setup in my home built pc and the scripts ran just fine.

Geez...If I'd wanted something I had to troubleshoot myself, If I wanted something that *might* work if you crossed your fingers and held your breath (among other things)...uhhh...I would have wrote them myself!

But when you pay for something you expect the darn thing to work.

What a waste of my money!

As we state when you purchase these, that is the risk you are taking on that they may not work in every pc out there.  So it seems the software is the problem but rather an incompatibility with your older pc.

The only thing I see weird with your settings is that unless you changed the settings on your linksys router, it should be 192.168.1.x for the ip and not 192.168.0.x

I don't see where he indicated it was a Linksys router. D-Link routers use 192.168.0.x as the default subnet.

I've seen problems with people not being able to access TWP, telnet, etc. with PTVnet; simply reloading only PTVnet (not InstantCake) can sometimes fix the issue.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.
