van someone please help me...i got the the phillips 704 directivo and i ordered instantcake,ptvnet,lba...disks last week.

I set it up and everything works except for i cant telnet into it. i even tried making the zipper disk with the same results.

I first tried the linksys usb200m and found out from here it is a 50/50 chance it will work depending on the version you have. Then i picked up the belkin f5d5050 and same results....no lights on it. Finally i found a trendnet tu-et100c in a drawer still sealed and popped in in and got lights. But i still cant telnet or ping the machine.

I even re ran the ptvnet disc to set it for different drivers and dhcp and same result. i also re ran the whole setup again, both the standard instantcake setup and zipper. still get the lights and i see the network adaptor flash like it is active but cant see it on the network.

What am i missing? i know the network jack and cable are fine..i use them with my 360 and all is good.

would it have anything to do with my router?
i have a linksys wrt54gs.

I have been screwing with this for a week and cant figure it out. at lease i didnt mess with the original drive that was in there , it was hacked about 2 years ago and the new one is a 300gb maxtor.

Please if anyone has any idea please let me know....i have been searching here this whole week and cant find the info i need.

How old is the PTVNet ISO? If it like a month old it should support the USB200M. I'm using two of them now.

If you installed for USB 2.0 drivers, then the  Belkin is not going to work. Do you have a serial cable for the TiVo? If you do, connect using Hyperterm (or some other terminal emulator) and you can switch the 2.0 drivers for 1.0 drivers (I forget the command, but you can find it here easy enough). I had to do this on my other TiVo and my FD5050 works just fine.

If you connect to the router, does it assign an IP to the TiVo using DHCP?

Does the 'ipconfi' command work on the TiVos? I haven't tried. If it does you can see if you are getting an IP address on the TIVo.

the PTVNet disc is recent, i have tried again with clean installs both ways with the instant disk and ptvnet disc and also used zipper. The link light comes on the usb adaptor but no IP address..... So im at the point where i am getting ready to give up. but i did read somewhere before that some people got sucess after using a serial cable on it. Can someone please give me a link so the step by step instructions for using a serial cable on it PLEASE! I want to run the tweekhack files that were installed when i did the drive since i cant run them over the network. Thanks for your help

If you hook up the serial cable between the DSR704 and the computers, just hit the 'Enter' key and you get a BASH prompt.

This Thread tells youwhat to type into the BASH to swap the USB drivers to the 1.0 version.
