RCA DVR upgrade, don't know a lot, looking to do it right!...
So I'm one of those former R15 owners, who have tossed that junk for a RCA DVR...
Problem is the R15 was my first ever DVR, and I have never had a "real Tivo."
So this experience is now to me. The other problem is I don't know any Unix or commands, code, anything!...
..and of course it seems you have to know unix commands, and code to know how to hack the boxes...
I am happy to find this site, and instasntcake as is looks like the have some user friendly software...
now if all could please help me as I have some simple questions...
Once I get my receiver from the ebay seller I want to swap out the drive. Obviously I will need a drive kit form instantcake, but I also want to get the networking hack as well, is this a separate software? It seems to be sold additionally....
I have 2 new 200gig HD's I want to put them in the DVR, is it as simple as hooking up to my computer IDE master/slave then booting form the instantcake CD?
This is the software packages I was going to buy from instant cake.
InstantCake for Series2 DirecTV Units
PTVnet for select DirecTV TiVo DVR Systems
Now there are other software on the site...will I need anything else for this task?
