A recent DVRPG article compared the DVRs offered by the 2 major US satellite TV companies: Dish Network and DirecTV. The article didn't try to compare their DVR services to those of the cable companies, due to the fact that there are a lot more cable companies out there and they tend to be the only one in the areas they serve.

So the question is: in your area, depending on what cable company you have, which service (Dish, DirecTV, or your cable co) would you pick and why?

Oh yes, if you do have a DVR with your cable company, who is your provider, what's your DVR model and do you like it?

Rather than pick one, I'll do a little comparison:

Cable

bad: first 70+ channels are analog

good: I could save some money, as I wouldn't need five boxes for most of my needs

Dish

bad: their DVRs aren't anywhere near as useful as a TiVo; they keep nagging me to return

good: their HD picture quality is reportedly better than DirecTV's

DirecTV

bad: HD quality sucks; TNT-HD dropped on Sundays to allow for HD Sunday Ticket bandwidth; moving away from TiVo; stupid lease program

good: I can have five TiVos networked

At this point, the only change I would consider would be going back to cable, as that would save me money, but I would most likely have only one DVR. I'm paying an extra $20/month for all of the TiVos I have.

We had

Adelphia which was for two rooms, a cable modem for internet and the price was more than 5 DirecTV Tivos and ATT DSL. With the Digital cable from Adelphia the picture would Pixelate ALL the time on every show.

when I moved my DirecTV Tivos (2 of them at first) to my new place that I shared with my parents we then  bought three more DirecTV Tivos and hacked the remaining three and networked them all. My parents can't live without the Tivos anymore. Way better than Digital cable.
