I have been searching around, and can't seem to find an answer to this. I upgraded my directivo (RCA DVR39) with the latest Instant Cake image. At this point, I do not have networking going due to the fact that I am waiting for my adapter(s) to arrive in the mail. However, I have been setting up a few things, and can't seem to find an answer to this.
I prefer to use a static ip on my network, rather than use DHCP. I successfully changed the DHCP flag to off and the STATIC flag to on. I edited /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author with the pertinant information for my network.
My question is, how do I change the hostname of my tivo on the network? I currently have telnet access via a serial cable, and I have read about changing the /etc/dhclient.conf file, but since I am not using DHCP, it seems to me that would be irrelevant.
I have a fair working knowledge of linux, and am comfortable using vi to edit config files. I have also set up networking on linux systems in the past (Redhat), but this is a bit different to me. Would editing the /etc/hosts file do the trick?
I am planning to add a second tivo to my network, and would like unique names and ip addresses for each unit.
