Welcome to the official contest thread for the "Win a Date For Your DVR" DVRplayground contest. To learn about this contest, and how to win a free Slingbox, please review the contest details.

We know your DVR is lonely, so it's high time you tried to get it a date! How? Write a personals ad for your DVR!

Think of your DVR as your best friend (you know you already do anyway), and try to find it a special someone by telling it's age, interests, hobbies, location, neighbors, etc. For example, a personals ad for my 7-year old Panasonic Showstopper PVHS-2000 would read:

They don't make 'em like me anymore!

I'm a Distinguished, "Single" tuner DVR from Chicago seeking a placeshifting companion to fill the empty void that is my S-video jack. I'm a well-aged Replay TV unit, 7-years old, and a lovely shade of dark gray. Don't let my age fool you! I know I'm a little older and slower than younger DVRs, but I can still get up and running in 10 seconds flat! I reside in a clean, high-tech neigborhood complete with a big screen TV and surround system, so there's plenty of other folks here you can meet.

I'm a very cultured DVR, having recorded and played back various types programs over the years. Though my main interests include shows like Star Trek, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Frasier, and That 70's Show, I've also been known to record baseball games, news, award shows, and a variety of educational programming. I'm sure I could keep you well entertained.

Don't go for the everyday "common" DVR like the TiVos and Motorolas of the world. I'm one of the pioneers in the DVR space, and rare since Panasonic only made Showstoppers like me for a limited time. What are you waiting for? I've got 30 Gigs of love to give, and a open space right above me to put you on the pedestal that you deserve.

Write in your personals ad below and submit it to this thread. To be eligible, you must have your entry submitted by August 7th, 2006. The more creative your ad, the better chance yours could be selected by our panel of distiguished judges!

I am a single DVR from Wisconsin. I am the pride of the neighborhood. I am recording NFL games, 24, Lost, George Lopez, The Sopranos, Deadwood and so on. By the way this was a great year for me and my master. We are Steelers fans and I had the joy of recording all of the games in HD and I reflect on them once and a while when it gets quite and I cannot go into standby.

Then I got worried when my master unhooked me and took out my heart, I was thinking oh god it is over. He does not need me anymore. But when I was rebooted not only did I have my heart back but I had a bunch of friends. It turns out he bought this upgrade fromn PTV Upgrade that gave me a bunch of friends and now I was like Jack Dawson in Titanic an screamed internally "I'm the king of the world". I had a bunch of buddies now I could communicate back and forth with. We could share programmming, pictures, music and more.

My master would also log in from work from time to time to see how I was doing. He could even see what I was recording when he was not here so I had to be careful...lol Cause there are some risque channels in the 590's :0)

But then once again I got scared. Since the phone is plugged into me I can monitor the calls in the house and one day my master was talking to someone from DirecTv and he was talking about getting more DVR's and I thought SWEET more friends, well it was not so good for me. It turns out he removed some of my friends with DVR's that cannot talk to me. Now I am back to the beginning again of being lonely :(

So now I am in the need for someone to talk to and share things with.

I have 4 tuners so I can take care of your every need A.S.A.P, and my only purpose is to serve. And I am HD so I can take care of you in style. We have the premire package so I can share any of the styles of programming you like. And football season is right around the corner so we have alot of games to get ready for... did I say I was a sports nut. Well I am. Well hope you are there....my new companion... xoxoxo

Yours truely

Global Traveler Seeks Low Maintenance Companion

Mature unit of ample proportions seeks a companion to travel far and wide. You'll be the addition to my existence. Completes me and we'll travel extensively. We'll share laughter and tears. Together there will be much to learn and marvel at.

With you as my lifeline I know life will be richer. Plug in to what I've already got going and there'll be no limit to where we can take things. Imagine nights in exotic locations. Together we'll bask in the glow of TV shows as the sun goes down.

Let's sling out beyond today's limitations so we discover a new tomorrow together!

how lonely am i? i'm so lonely that my human is actually trying to humanize me and enter me into a contest for a companion. so, i'm desperately seeking binary encoding companion!

i'm not a typical dvr however and i'm looking for some like minded silicon based unit to share electrons with. humans resort to things like supplements and vitamins, but i'm super powerful without such artificial enhancements. for example, my one year old body is made even more developed because of the turbo net and cache cards that have been so skillfully made a part of me.

i'm seeking my better half. someone, or should i say something, that will radiate the bright light that i project. in you and with you, we'll illuminate and share all the great joys of the world, laugh at the humor, revel in the romance, marvel at the mysterious, and whatever we can't take in right away, we'll let soak into the magnetic medium tucked deep inside.

looks are not important, in fact my current rack is probably nicer than yours and there's a nice cool spot in it just for you. come and join me, let's get plugged in and start to share the joy.

 looking forward to getting "connected"!

I've never done anything like this before but here goes:

I enjoy recording long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners, romantic comedies, and kick ass action movies.

I'm not religious, even though I recorded something on the Praise the Lord Network and my guardians had no idea what was going on! I fry my circuits! So as you can tell I'm good humored and love a good laugh. I mean who else has seen every episode of Seinfeld, who else would record Reno 911 every time it airs, who else would put themselves up for total humiliation by putting an add on a website.

My adoptive parents made me do this (they can be really controlling sometimes), but don't let that throw you off.  I will take this seriously because, really, I have a so few things to look forward to besides Grey's Anatomy™ and The Daily Show™.  Deep in my core I know that the right companion is out there for me.

I hope we can come up with more corny jokes together!

My DVR divas back home have finally convinced me to try out this crazy new Internet dating scene now that I'm living in Virginia and I thought why not give it a try! I like to think of myself as a sweet, saucy, sophisticated series 3 lady TiVo who never misses a night recording new episodes of my nightly favorite Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy and loves to stuff my high definition hard drive with plenty of healthy cooking tips from my main man Emeril. To keep up with my shiny new figure I like to burn a few hundred megabits every so often recording work out episodes from FitTV with my girlfriends and after a hard day of spinning I like to whine down to hilarious classic reruns of Saturday Night Live.

I'm looking for a sexy placeshifting kind of man who knows how to compliment my interests with his own, then power me up with a surprise, push my buttons and take my s-video out in this busy new town I hope to soon call home. So, if you think you have the kind of "ether" to hook me up to then I'm ready and willing to try anything new! ;)

A big thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the "Win a Date For Your DVR" contest. All the submissions were very creative and fun to read. Some were even downright hilarious!

The judges have weighed in, and a winner has been decided! It was a pretty close race, but in the end, one entry stood out above the rest. The winner of a brand new Sling Media Slingbox is... (insert drumroll)

GOATTEE!

The judges felt that Goattee truly captured the spirit of the contest, talking about the interaction of the Slingbox and the DVR in a way that truly matched a personals style ad. And, the titch of dry humor helped, too.

Congratulations Goattee!

Didn't win this time around? Keep an eye out for our next DVRplayground contest. Who knows what great prizes await... stay tuned!

I did the whole online dating thing for a while about 2 years ago and every girl profile i would read from an interesting 20 to 25 year old would range from either "i like to have fun" to "my girlfriend's put me up to this" or "i've never done this before". makes me laugh when i think back!

Great job goattee!! :)
