Which ethernet adapter are you using?

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.
I have an RCA DVR40 that has been upgraded with PTVnet and Instantcake. The installation went great and I have activated the usb2.0 drivers. I am now trying to connect TIVO to my router via a usb 2.0 cable and ethernet adapter. A simple hard wire connection.
The connection is dead. I do not see the ip address registering on the looklink and my DHCP is running on my router. All instructions were followed yet I have no connection. Any tips and guidance we be greatly appreciated

I am simply using a direct USB cable connection from the DirecTivo RCA DVR40 to my D-Link wireless router. On both ends of the cable are the standard male usb plugs. One end is connected to the DVR. On the other end that is connected to the router, I have an RJ45 adapter with a female usb end. This allows me to plug the other end of the usb cable to the RJ45 adapter. The RJ45 adapter then plug in to one of the ports on the back of the wireless router. The cable is good as I have used it on other applications I have not tried a wireless adapter.
What you are attempting will not work. Read the sticky in this forum for compatible adapters.

Okay, Thanks for your help and direction. I am new at this so I do not know what "sticky" is referring to. Sorry about that. After all that I have read on network adapters.... if I attached a Netgear FA120 wireless key to the back of the Tivo I should be good to go... hopefully.

Exactly - that is what you need, then you should indeed be good to go!
Incidentally a 'sticky' is a thread that remains at the top of the list (i.e it sticks) regardless of other threads having more recent posts. A sticky is usually designated because it has common reference information that is likely to be accessed frequently especially by new members for instant guide.
