I read somewhere that PTVupgrade must or should run on a drive that has been used with MFS Tools for some reason. In that case could I just clone from my origional drive to a new drive using MFS Tools and then use PTVupgrade?

If you only want to use PTVnet, then yes, you'll need to use MFSTools first. If you plan on creating a new installation with InstantCake, there is no need to do that.

It *is* possible to install PTVnet on your TiVo's drive without using MFSTools (read here), but it is not recommended.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

Well here is what is going on. I copied an origional drive (HDVR2) using MFS Tools and did PTVupgrade and could ping the DVR and that is all. I did this about 3x. When I used Instant Cake & PTVupgrade it worked fine. I need help to figured out what went wrong with the MFS Tools & PTVupgrade senerio. I have my HR10-250 with some highly coveted recording on it and want to network it so IC is not an option. That is why I have been practicing with my HDVR2. Can someone please give me some pointers?

Blitz -

You need to review the official PTVnet support thread as Yog recommended; I'm assuming that when you say "PTVupgrade" you mean "PTVnet" -- that may seem like a small detail, but other small details not noticed may make the difference between a successful or an unsuccessful upgrade - so if you run through it again, take note of any errors or warnings you see.

Also note the "force" option which is discussed in the official support thread; you can use this on your original drive, however you really need to be careful and attentive; if you make a mistake your original drive may be rendered unbootable.

Thx Lou-

Yes I am talking about PTVNet (sorry) I am very new to this. I will try more things on a copied drive and see if I can get something to work since messing with my origional is not an option.
