I'm a newbie - hence the post in this section.  I did a search on second tuner and didn't find and answer to this question: I bought a Samsung SIR-S4080R off of eBay and plugged it in at home (BEFORE I buy the PTVNet upgrade for it) to make sure it works properly.  I went to System Information and it shows that the "Second Tuner is Not Active."  Is this a problem with the hardware or will it be corrected when I upgrade with Instant Cake and PTVNet?

Re-run Guided Setup. Choose the appropriate dish type, and set it to use both inputs.

Did you tell Guided setup you have 2 cables, sat 1 and sat 2 going into the unit?

Affirmative.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Do i need a new access card to do that or can I use either the one's that cames with teh S2s that I bought on ebay or my current series 1 tivo access cards?

If you're replacing an existing receiver, you should be able to use the old one's access card. Call DirecTV and tell them you're replacing a receiver and that you want to "marry" the old access card to the new one. If the first rep won't do it, you can always call back and get someone else. If you have absolutely no luck with that, have them connect you with Customer Retention and insist on some free programming and/or a billing credit (for the $20 access card).

The guided setup worked. I guess the previous owner didn't ever connect more than one cable to it. Do you have any idea why DTV wouldn't let me use my current access cards?

There's not a good reason DirecTV shouldn't let you recycle one of your own access cards. An access card that someone else used, however, may have unreported PPV movies on it, so I can see why they wouldn't let someone use that.

I added this to the sticky thread in this forum.
