I have decided it is time to upgrade my Tivo. I have a 40 hour Tivo series 2 (model #TDC540040).

I have seen conflicting information about the maximum hard drive size that I can buy. Does my Tivo unit support drives larger than 137GB? Can I use a 160GB or 200GB drive?

What software do I need? Just InstantCake? Or the Version 11 Universal 11 Boot CD? Or both?

I am not interested in preserving any of the recordings on my Tivo unit - I just want more space (Tour de France is 6 weeks away and I am a big cycling fan!!)

Here are some other versions if they help...
Software Version: 7.2.2b
Service Number: 540-xxxx

Thanks!

Instant cake supports drives over 137gb and thats you easiest way to go. It really is the shiz-nik.

2 DSR7000 Instant Cake, PTV Net, Superpatch For HMO/MRV, Tivo Desktop, and TivoServer.
