I can't tell if my usb ports are working properly. I can't get the IP to show up on Look at Lan. I'm also wondering if anyone has a good walkthrough for the dtv rca 40gig.

Yes, this system has been hacked. The adapter is a pieced together usb to ethernet connector. I have plugged directly into my ethernet port on my computer. I believe my problem may be in the way my network is set up or lack thereof. The hard drive is now a 120GB drive. The new hack seems to be working fine so far other than this one problem. It is a series 2 dvr.

That may be part of the problem, the adapter. There is no make and modle number of the adapter. I have one end of a dual ended usb cord plugged into the lower usb port and the other is plugged into a usb to ethernet connector then I had to use a ethernet coupling to run the cable into my computer. I just changed the cable to a crossover cable, no luck yet but I will try some different things. What types of adapters are out there.
Get a Netgear FA120, and we'll continue from there.

I ran out to the store right after I responded because I found a where a suggested adapter is a Linksys usb 2.0 10/100 network adapter usb200m I have it installed and it lit up. That seems to be a good sign to me. Where do we go from here? No luck with anything coming up yet.
Does your USB200M have a "Version 2" sticker on it? Another way to check is to look at the box - if there is no "orange CD" under the box contents on the right side, then yours is a version 2, which will not work with software version 6.2.

The set up CD says that it is version 2.0, so I guess I'm back to square one. I will go back to the store tomarrow and get the netgear FA120 are there any versions incompatability issues?
PTVNet doesn't support wireless adapters. "G" adapters won't work with a DirecTiVo, period.

O.K., I went to the store and got the adapter plugged in Netgear FA120. Nothing is happening yet.
You need a second network interface in your PC (a USB-ethernet one will work), a crossover ethernet cable (an XBox System Link cable will do), and Internet Connection Sharing. If you have a wireless and a wired connection in your PC, you can share the wireless connecion via the wired (ethernet) one. Your TiVo will receive an IP address from the PC, most likely 192.168.0.2. My XBox is connected to my HTPC this way.

So, I want to make sure I have this right. Coming out of the dvr is the Netgear FA120, from there the crossover cable plugs into my ethernet port on my computer. (I'm currently using wireless for my internet which makes my ethernet port available.) If this is correct so far then I'm doing good. Now for the Internet Connection Sharing, how do I do this? I think I may have to do some setup in Network Connections but I'm not sure what.
Click on the hyperlink above. The configuration instructions for ICS are there. After you have ICS configured, reboot your TiVo so it will grab an IP address.

No luck, I tried to setup the network connection a couple of different ways and nothing has worked yet. I shut the tivo off and turned it on, nothing. My Lan is not connecting in the systems tray. The ICS hyperlink seemed to skip over a lot of questions that my wizard went through.
Are you sure you're using a crossover cable?

The cable had a couple of wires out of sequence. I have restarted the tivo, and can't find an IP address for it. I tried Look at Lan and nothing. I can see the Netgear has both lights lit up on it now, so we are making progress.

Yes, 192.168.0.1 is what shows up on the New Profile Setup but when I click on it nothing shows up. The other thing I noticed was that the IP is not there when I unhook the cable.
Exactly how was your unit hacked? Did you use PTVnet?

I tried just entering the IP using different methods, just the IP, http://192.168.0.1 Nothing is happening. I did use PTV hack to hack the dvr.

The TiVo is most likely grabbing the IP of 192.168.0.2. Try that in a browser. 192.168.0.1 is the IP of the ethernet port of your computer (with ICS enabled).

No luck. I thought it may be a firewall issue, disabling the firewall didn't work. instantcake-dvr40-6[1].2-01-2-321 and ptvnet62-1[1].02 are what I used to hack the dvr. The dvr is an RCA SERIES 2 DSR7000/17. Maybe I got the wrong upgrade. I don't know if I said this already but when I unplugged LAN a dialouge box came up telling me the Lan was unplugged.

I was about to give up completely and then it happened. The system seems to be up and running and we have web plus. 192.168.0.10 was the magic number. I first tried reloading and using the instant bake. That didn't work. Then I downloaded PTVnet and that worked. Rebaking did erase all previously saved info but that was no big loss. Thanks for all of the help.
