For those whose ADT (or whomever your contract is with) contract is about to expire, consider moving to NextAlarm. If you pay for a year in advance, the price will be $8.95/month (which can be pre-rated if you cancel service) or $14.95, if you choose the month-to-month option. The best part? You can purchase an "ABN," which connects directly to your current alarm system's phone input (it works fine with my ADT SafeWatch Pro 3000 system). The ABN uses your broadband connection in lieu of a phone line, and you can view all alarm events via their web site. No re-configuration of your current alarm system is necessary if you go this route. Using the ABN is not VoIP; it is a direct connection to the internet; your alarm system "dials" into the ABN, and the ABN reports to the server. You can also access your ABN directly via web interface (like TiVoWebPlus).

Of course, you can use a regular phone line or a cellular backup with the system.

Can you set and reset the alarm remotely via the web interface?

Yes, if your alarm system supports dialing in. To do so, you call either an East Coast or West Coast number, enter your customer ID, then enter your PIN. The system will "dial" into your alarm system.

The following is from NextAlarm's web site after I tested my system (after clicking "Put into test mode"):

Apr 05, 2006 04:51:09 PM Perimeter Violation Restored Zone 4
Apr 05, 2006 04:50:59 PM Authorized Alarm Cancel User 2
Apr 05, 2006 04:50:36 PM Perimeter Violation Zone 4

I intentionally opened my back door with the system armed. Their system also e-mailed me after each event.

[EDIT]

I just set up my text messaging with Verizon and entered that address into NextAlarm. I did another system test, and the system also sent me a text message (after I opened a secure door).
