I used Nero to burn as an 'ISO'

I used Nero to burn as a CD-ROM ISO. I am not familiar at all with Alcohol, so I don't know what to tell you. All I can say is to burn it as an 'ISO' image, but do NOT check any 'bootable' check boxes. I did that at first and I got the same error you did (missing OS).

So then I burned it as an ISO but did not check the 'make it bootable' box and it booted up to a Linux prompt.

I also burned it at a slower speed then Max, just to make sure I did not get any corruption.

Use a CD-RW, that way you are not making coasters. It should take a very little amount of time to burn so try every possibility. Do not burn as 'data', burn as an ISO.

p.s. I forgot to add that you need to make sure that you 'close' the session so that no more data is written to the disk.
