Hello - I purchased InstantCake in Nov 2004 for my Series 2 TDC540040 and and put in a new 200GB drive and everything worked great. Unfortunately, that same 200GB hard drive started to crash yesterday (making bad sounds, temporarily freezing, etc.). I'd like to go get a new hard drive and bake it up later today, but I'm worried my old CD may not still be compatible. I know TIVO delivered upgraded version of its software in the last year, and I don't want everything to freak out when I do guided setup and download for the first time.

I just looked and my current software version is 7.2.1-oth-01-2-540.

So here are the questions:

1) Should I use my old InstantCake to cook up a new drive and pray that setup / download for correctly?

2) Should I buy new InstantsCake?

3) If I buy new InstantCake, what version of the software am I going to get out of the gate?

THANKS!

No reason not to use the one you already purchased; your unit will update to the latest version of the TiVo software when it connects and downloads.

Software rev info is available in the tech support area in the InstantCake Release Notes.
