I have InstaCake 6.2 CD for my Samsung SIR4040R DTivo
I have downloaded and made CD of PTV LBA48 utils.

It says I can use PTVbake-special to copy the kernel from the InstaCake CD to my Tivo drive.

All I want to do is get networking going, but the first thing is to get the kernel to be the killhdinitrd (neutered) version.
I am guessing that is what is on the InstaCake CD. Is that correct?

Can the PTVbake-special be used to simply copy the kernel to the right partition (on my previously enlarged HD), WITHOUT wiping out my recordings?

What is the exact command to do so?

Thank you

No... PTVbake-special is a revised version of the standard InstantCake script. Do a search on PTVbake-special to see how it is used, and why.

If you want networking, consider the PTVnet product, it is designed to do what it is you want.

If I manage to install the 3.1.5 (included in the PTVupgrade LBA48 utils $5 CD) to the boot-partition of the Tivo drive, will this still be running DTivo 6.2 features, or does it go back to an earlier version?

Does the PTVnet product put in a killhdinitrd'd kernel and get me telnet/ftp/serial access for Samsung SIR4040 Series2 DTivo with 6.2 software? Will it still be running DTivo 6.2 features, or does it go back to an earlier version?

Does the PTVnet product do this as a script or an executable program?
Or do I have to figure out how by searching these message boards?

Best bet is to read the product description and see if it meets your requirements:

Hi,

I purchased LBA48, InstantCake for SAT-T60 followed the instructions in this link.

The Tivo boots up but all of my recordings are gone.

Is there any hope to recover the recordings?

Thanks
