Hmm... no recommended drive list, eh?

Anyone have any suggestions?

How fast? 5400RPM, 7200RPM?

Western Digital or Maxtor Ok?

I recommend the Seagate 7200.x series. They are very quiet, not to mention that Best Buy had the 120 GB right before Christmas for $40. :)

As cheap as hard drives are now, there's not much point in buying a 5400 rpm 3.5" drive.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

Seagate Barracuda 300gb

I just dropped a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 300gb drive into my Humax DRT400. Works like a charm! I have it in the family room... no problems with noise at all.

Thanks for the Seagate recommendations. Having heard nothing back on this post earlier, though, I had already ordered a Western Digital 250GB WD2500SB RAID Edition drive. Noise is not an issue for me, since the player is not in the room with us. This drive is rated for 1,000,000 hours MTBF, and is warrented for 5 years. Hopefully it will work out ok.

Actually, Maxtor has a whole line of hard drives for DVR units, it is the Quick View line. They are quiter than computer hard drives and this is the one that Hindsdale sells you on line. They are available from New Egg at at resonable price. The size is up to 500 gb.

Just wanted to follow up and say that the Western Digital 250GB WD2500SB RAID Edition drive Instantcake'd, PTVNet'd, and installed perfectly in my DSR708 and so far appears to be working just fine.
