With Directv being idiots and ditching the tivo brand for their own inferior system, I'm looking to set myself for awhile. I currently use the same Series 1 DSR6000 that I've had for the last four years, and I've done little except mod it for more space and dial out through my computer with the serial cable.

What I'm looking for is some recommendations on which Series 2 Directivos are especially good, especially when it comes to working with upgrade like the PTV disc, etc. There just seems to be so many different manufacturers and models that it is overwhelming.

Lemme know!

p.s. and what up with the 7000 having that ugly card slot in the front?

DirecTV hasn't ditched TiVo. They are just using their own technology for their newer, and less expensive devices so they can keep up with the cheaper commodity offerings.

In any case, all of the Series2 DirecTV TiVo units are essentially the same, other than the R10, and the HR10-250. Just go with what looks best to you and maybe look at the remotes as a few of them are different.

If you are looking to upgrade with PTVnet, then pick one of the list of supported systems and you'll be good to go.
