I've also still been having the issue where the network works for a few days and then stops working. I've tried another switch moved DHCP from running on my router to running on a MS Windows XP Server, replaced cables and tried both the LinkSys USB200M & NetGear FA120 and I still have the same problem. It seems that PTVNet just does not want to admit that there is a problem. Reboot and it works great for about a day.
I also know that it is not my network because networks are my life. I'm a senior network consultant for a fortune 50 company. After all the troubleshooting I've done. I can guarantee it is not the network.

Everything is working great on my PTV upgrade. Only problem is that my networking stops working within a 24 hour period and I have to reboot it to get it back. I am linux literate ( Not MFS although) and very familiar with networking concepts. I looked into the /var/log/messages file and didn't see anything that stuck out. I can't believe it's anything physical since a reboot takes care of it. Are there any other logs I can / should look into. I have ~13 other dhcp clients on the same network as the tivo and they don't experience this issue. My dhcp lease is set to expire in 120 days so that's not the issue. Any assistance or insight into this would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
John

Just out of curiosity, have you tried assigning IPs by MAC address (aka "static DHCP")? Newer Netgear routers have this capability, and some Linksys ones can do it when loaded with a third-party firmware. All of the day-to-day devices on my network (including three TiVos) get their IPs this way.

I also have this network dropout issue
I just recently upgraded my RCA DTIVO with InstantCake and PTVNet software version 6.2. I am using the NetGear FA120 wired to my linksys router. In the morning I reboot my tivo and it receives 192.168.15.103 with hostname PTVUpgrade. By the afternoon, the network connection drops and it no longer is on the network. If I leave it, I sometimes find it back on my network with 192.168.15.102 and a blank host name or a host name of many numbers. This is odd Behavior like it is reseting itself. I have tried a DLINK DHCP server as well as another Linksys router I have, but have the same problem. I will be trying a static IP address tonight if I can figure out how to set it up.
Starting to not sound like an isolated incident.
Yes, it does sound like you both may have similar problems to one another; in your case, it sounds like you are losing network connectivity and that when/if your IP address is renewed, it is sometimes different than originally.
I would look at the connectivity of your USB Ethernet adapter as one potential issue - ie make sure the connection is not loose. I would also check your router settings and make sure that the 'lease time' of the IP address is appropriate - perhaps going to a static IP will resolve your issue if its DHCP related or a problem with DHCP in your environment (there is a sticky thread in this forum with explicit instructions on static IP configuration).
Lastly, keep in mind that there are actually thousands of people using the very same drivers in environments which are described as similar to or the same as yours. I'd be looking for either a configuration problem or a hardware problem before you write this off as a bug or shortcoming in the PTVnet scripts which install/configure these drivers; they are proven to work in most environments, the real question is what might either be different or wrong in your environment vs everyone else's.

It turned out to be an issue with my dhcp in my Netgear router.
What model?

Just reloaded my Tivo...again.
While it was booting for the first time, Look@Lan saw it as 192.168.2.51 and inside the router it was listed with the same IP address with the hostname "1010000C01E4D4F".
However, after a couple of minutes the Router listed it as 192.168.2.53 with the hostname PTVupgrade-TiVo-Series2. After a refresh it switched to *.52. Yet Look@Lan still has it as *.51 with no hostname. No FTP, Telnet, etc.
I have reloaded the Tivo twice, reset the router back to factory defaults several times. And my USB200M had been working with this Tivo for a year.
Upgradeing to 6.2 and adding a second Tivo seem to be the source of all my headaches!!
Sounds like your router is confused by the presence of more than one TiVo on your network if the same hostname for each is present in the dhclient.conf file. Many routers don't have this shortcoming, as they use the MAC address (unique to each device, regardless of what it is called), however some do have a problem.
The workaround for this is simple - change the hostname description in the dhclient.conf file to something unique. Not sure if this was the original poster's problem, however the fix for your situation is documented here:

Just wanted to pipe in that I'm having the EXACT same issue. I've had to reset the tivo twice today.
This isn't an isolated issue.
