I just found this forum and I'm 'oH so hoping that you all can help me with some information concerning my upgrading the hardrive within my "Philips DSR708" DirecTv DVR unit.
I have been wondering about the "Ease" of upgrading my unit with "Maxtor's" new "QuickView 500" DVR Hardrive. Maxtor states that this drive is design specifically for DVR units. I've gone through this forum a bit & I keep seeing "InstantCake" but I'm at a loss as to what it is I really need inorder to "Hopefully" upgrade my hardrive. All I want to do is to remove the hardrive thats in the unit currently, that being a 70 gig... and replace it with Maxtor's 500 Gig QuickView 500 hardrive.
Any and "All" help will be Truely Appreciated to the Fullest... Here's a link to the spec sheet for Maxtor's QuickView 500...

We haven't tested InstantCake on anything larger than dual 400GB drives. It may work just fine, however if you want to "play it safe" go with the guidelines for drive sizes documented in the product release notes.
