There is a linux version of Ghost...
I would think that ANY DOS boot/based program could cause problems...

MFSTools2 ISO is a bootable CD and 10 megs of download...
Ghost Linux is 10 megs...

Mepis is a bootable CD that you might find useful just as a Linux operating environment... Big Download... Even bigger than InstantCake's 250+...

OK, problems... I understand that windows XP writing the signature would cause issues, but what does ghost not have that linux does. Im not looking for a "linux is better" discussion, or "why it's better". Just simply asking "Why not bootable ghost? The bootable version (floppy).

Actually, I think it would work... XP, ME NT have issues where they write to the drive if it gets booted to those OS..

I have Norton Ghost 7 that I use frequently but have not tried it on a Tivo Drive.

I also have G4L (Ghost For Linux) bootable CD that I know will work...

so I guess what were saying is "no one's tried yet"... seems like this would be a SIMPLE answer to backing up your tivo drive.

/me digs out a copy of ghost and begins to debate

Actually, ghost for linux is a simple solution...

Any Linux boot and dd... is a simple solution...

Both are free, where as, Norton Ghost is not...

Please, do the work, test the drive and let us know...

I have been searching for a way to copy my full 80gb drive to a 300 gb drive and keep all my recoded football games. I tried hindsdale previously on another tivo drive and the old drive failed in the process(I lost everything). Where can I get a free copy of G4L and do you think this will do what I want. Thanks for the help!

I don't think there is a Ghost for Linux.

I've been looking, and it's invisible.
Maybe some would even say that it doesn't exist

or the ISO's can only be burned at midnight on friday the 13th

I too have a system that i'd like to copy. Go here, Where i've asked the same question and got some complicated answers
