Ok, I purchased the kit and installed it tonight. Now, what is so special about this? I got to Tivo web, but that was about it? Here is my question if anybody can answer... What do I need to do to activate Tivo's HMO? I have several people telling me that the 6.2 software will do this... but what is the truth and if that is true, then why did this kit for 199 dollars come with old software?

Thanks for your time...

There is a lot more than just TiVoWebPlus installed on your drive. Complete details are here:

HMO is not part of PTVnet. You can install the "superpatch" to do that, now that you have telnet and ftp access (also part of PTVnet). More information on HMO and superpatch is at dealdatabase.com, but also search around here, as well as others have installed it.

First I would not "personally" use telnet to "put" the file on the TiVo. Yoy can I suppose but not my personal favorite. Also if I recall correctly you have to set to binary and then "put". Like I said I don't like to use Telnet. Get SMARTFTP they have free trial versions. Also it will transfer to the TiVo in binary mode with an Auto Detect option. I think that is probably your issue. Let us know how it goes...

You are comparing 'apples and oranges'

telnet is for establishing a terminal session (gaining shell access) with the unit so you can run linux commands on it. telnet cannot be used for 'putting' files on the unit; that is what FTP is for...
