Sorry
Cannot say I agree. I used sleepers as well and was somewhat happy with it. Instant Cake on the other hand was much easier to use and combined with PTVnet makes this a very viable tool for those that do not have "many" hours to sit and read and re read forums. If you were able to create a boot disk for Sleepers ISO its the same thing for Instant Cake.. Good Luck
I purchased the instantcake product last night figuring this would be the end of my problems. Why else would a person spend $20? Was I wrong! I have done my tivo in the past using sleepers, a free program, but with its problems. Rather than spend the countless hours to learn about proms and kernels, I chose instantcake. 1st thing, no instructions on how to make a bootable disc! A person normally doesnt need a bootable disc, so I would assume most dont have this knowledge. What gives? Then an email to support is responded with an email that for $20, you dont get support! Sad way to do business.

Your expectations are unreasonable.
1) we state that the software is unsupported, however we still provide this forum (along with LOTS of responses) as a method of support
2) we state that YOU should be capable of burning a CD from an ISO file in order to use the downloadable product; you reviewed and agreed to this, prior to completing your purchase. we DO provide kits and pre-burned CD's for those who don't want to learn how to do this
3) your specific question/problem is a function of your own understanding of applications running on your PC; not InstantCake. IE burning an ISO and how to do it is a function of your CD burning software, not ours.
4) even with all that said, there are several posts in this very forum on how to burn an ISO and where to go for more information. Perhaps use the "search" button and even if you can't find the information here, use "google"
$20 gets you a DIY tool which is inexpensive and there is still an expectation that you have a PC and know how to use it (we state that in many places). It is NOT as easy as ordering a preconfigured kit from us, and it is not as expensive, either.

I agree... in fact, how did this person make it through the website to order the CD downloads and NOT see this info posted?
Well, I believe that info was posted in the terms and agreements. Which is usually so flooded with bullshit, that most dont read them. then again, I may have just missed it.
I may not know how to make a boot CD, but I do know how to do a chargeback and spread the news of what IMO is a crappy transaction

and at the bottom of the page:
Can I download it?
Please see here for more information on downloading InstantCake as an ISO which you can burn to CD! For more information, including technical support for InstantCake, please see our basic support and instructions page, and also register at our free, interactive forums!

Every now and then I run into someone like you. Lazy, ignorant, and always looking for someone else to blame for their own problems.
Get off my forums, you have no right to be here; this is a resource for people who want to learn, not gripe and make threats.

This is crappy software.
It has so many loops and possabilities, it's just plain old lazyness on part of the authors.
Hell, they don't even do support, leaving it to others here on the forum.
all they want to do is sell Marked up Hard Drives that they create copies of from previous setups.
And the marketing material does NOT describe the protential problems or pitfalls well, instead (doing what good trash marketing does) pushing what they can do... Like PTVNET... everywhere it says it works with R10-250... but guess what... that's ONLY if you buy thier hard drive.
No, these guys may be geeks, but they are not business men.
Charge back for me as well...
Yup, that's what we've been doing for the past 5+ years, just ripping people off.
Seriously, every one of your previous comments is dead-wrong, and off-topic as well.
This forum is not your venue for your rants and ignorant comments; if you want to do that, take it somewhere else. If you continue, you will be banned, and this will be one less resource available to you.
And by all means, feel free to waste your time with a chargeback; clearly you read nothing prior to making your purchase.
It might be a better use of your energy to do some reading and actually learn something instead of looking for someone to blame for your mistakes.
I'll leave this post up for a few days, but if it degenerates into a series of obscenities and threats as it did last time, I'm just going to delete it, and ban the folks who aren't behaving.
To anyone else that is reading: We do our best to create quality products and provide as much support as possible on these forums. Our products work almost ALL the time if they are used as they are intended, and often its just a matter of following the instructions.
If you do not understand what you are purchasing, then you shouldn't be purchasing them at all. If it is not as simple to you as reading the product descriptions, supported models, and understanding your role and responsibility when purchasing a DIY software product, please consider purchasing a pre-configured kit, which is certainly easier (and more expensive) then going the DIY route.
If you do purchase a DIY software product, and are unable to make it work, we will give you full trade-in towards the purchase of a kit.
It is YOUR choice to decide whether to upgrade your TiVo, and what tools to use. If you are unwilling to accept that responsibility, please take your business elsewhere.
I have attached the End User License Agreements (EULA) for both InstantCake and PTVnet to this post. I'd recommend you read the full product descriptions and release notes posted in these forums prior to purchasing anything from our site, however at a minimum, you should read the EULA prior to completing your purchase of ANYTHING; we do ask you to accept or not accept these terms prior to completing your purchase.
Have a nice weekend and happy upgrading!

It seems to me the ones spewing this stuff lately are just looking for straight plug-and-play solutions, without having to put ANY effort into making it work what so ever. People... if you would do a little research before just clicking on something, whipping out your wallet, and paying for it, you would realize what you're buying would (or wouldn't) work with. If you aren't sure, come to the forum and ask, or do a search on the net and check it out. Don't buy something, feel bad that you made a mistake, then abuse others for it... especially when many others have been perfectly capable of putting some effort into it and making a choice based on just a LITTLE bit of research and planning.
Modifying a DVR isn't the easiest thing in the world to do (for most), but it definitely isn't the hardest thing to do, either. Making the decision on what to buy should be the easiest decision to make... if you can't do that then maybe you shouldn't even try the upgrade??

We'd prefer it if you wouldn't link to our competitors from this site; they get enough press as it is.
With that said, here's a link to our instructions which also discuss and illustrate opening the case:

I purchased Instant Cake yesterday with my verified Paypal account that I've used for nearly a decade and was not provided with a download link. This should be instantaneous like everywhere that I've made a software purchase online. Where is my download link?
Try reporting you problem at dvrupgrade.com.
Click About Us and then Contact Us to submit you problem.
You also might try asking your question in the forum section of dvrupgrade.com.
Lou Jacob used to visit the dvrplayground site regularly, but i am not sure that he still does.
He definitely visits the dvrupgrade.com forums regularly.

For some reason I had the SAME EXACT thing happen. I thought I made a mistake with HOW I had the PayPal setup thinking I maybe used the credit card or eCheck or something. But even after the three or four days I still did not have a link. Once I contacted them via the LINK the previous comment wrote about they emailed me back right away. They fixed the problem almost immediately after too. Somehow on their end the transaction got mixed up, maybe from PayPal or something. Do not worry, they will fix it asap..
