I installed ICake and had no issues. I then installed THe networking tools and also had no issues (or errors). My problem is now when I plug in the linksys USB200M it does NOT appear to be activated. The lights do not come on on the linksys device.

I have the same problem. Have you found any fixes?

You do understand that InstantCake does not include networking capabilities for Series2 DirecTV units (that is what you have, yes?) and that PTVnet is the product that provides that capability, yes?

Still having problems

Yes. I have installed InstantCake followed by PTVNet. I had no errors or trouble installing. My Tivo itself is working perfectly. However, the network tools are not. I purchased the LinksysUSB200M and no lights come on when I plug it into the USB ports.

You said you installed InstantCake FOLLOWED by PTVnet. Is that that truly the order you did things in? Did you see in the instructions where you should be booting with the PTVnet CD and following the prompts to install the InstantCake CD as part of the installation.

Please provide as much detail, as possible.

It Works

Thanks!

I used the netgear FA120 and everything works fine.

Let me get this clear:
- I have an Toshiba RX-20

I had a failed disk so I used instantcake to update it.
Now, it seems "regular" tivo 2 Toshiba systems support networking with no "upgrades."
Am I reading correctly that my "instantcake" (now upgraded by Tivo to 7.3x or whatever)
cannot network and will require me to get the PTVnet image and re-update?
It seemed that now I could just use what I had and use the HMO tools(?) etc to do useful things.
My main question:
MUST I get PTVNet and then re-image the disk with it and instantcake?

what happens now with my instantcake image - is it update-able by Tivo?

Thank YOU!

Oh yeah, and I've done the "network dance" with the linksys card-you all are talking about and verified til my cows came home- no luck with networking.

Please tell me how wonderful life will be once I get the ptvnet disk!

(AND does this mean my tivo is now a "hacked" system?)

PTVnet is for DirecTV TiVos, not standalone ones.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.
