I just got the instant cake image for my DirecTv Tivo which is a Phillips DSR708. I was able to restore the image to the drive, and get the Tivo unit to boot. But when it did, it frooze after I entered my zipcode. So I unplugged it and rebooted. When it came back up this time it finished the satallite info setup, and let me watch live TV. However, when I went to System information it told me I had a 7000 series Tivi unit. I am not clearing and deleting everything and will see what it says after that.

My questions are:

1. Is it possible I got the wrong version of Instant Cake? The download and even image name are for the DSR704 not the DSR708 as I stated in my order.

2. Is that normal with the unit model showing incorrectly until clear and delete is run on the unit?

3. I got a hardware problem detected error message, that told me I would not be able to record shows until it was corrected. Again this was before the clear and delete. Is that normal? Will I be ok once the clear and delete is done?

Thanks
Joe

You did not receive the wrong version of InstantCake; please see this thread for more details:

http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/11662/

The "hardware error" is completely normal; the "clear and delete everything" is a requirement after creating the drive; the hardware error will go away, once its complete.

How long should the process of Clearing & Deleting last though?  I have a Sammy S4120R with a new 160 g hard drive which was successfully (I thought) baked with instantcake 6.2.  I plugged her in and powered up, and all went well through sat setup, but then it said that it detected a problem and suggested reseting or restarting.  Since I knew that I was going to need to execute a clear & delete everything, I went that direction and have now been at it for 1.5 hrs.  Record light is slowly flashing.  Should this process take this long, or should it have been done by now?

What should I do if it is stuck?  Unplug, and rebake?

Thanks!

Hours....

To some people (like me), it's worth it to use PTVnet with InstantCake just for that reason, as the "Clear and Delete" is not necessary.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

Thanks- well we will see.... btw, the reason that I didn't use ptvnet in combo with ic is that I could not get my cdrom to activate quick enough for ptvnet utility- it is slow to respond and ptvnet thinks that it is not mounted correctly (even though ptvnet boots up fine on cd).  So I booted up with ic and baked.  Now have loaded her into the Sammy and am trying to get the thing c&d'ed.

 Thanks-

Will let you know.... hopefully I don't have some larger problem!!!!!!

OK...so the total time in c&d mode was about 1.75 hrs... of course it takes many hours beyond that for the system to populate its two week future guide data from the sat so as to begin to be productive as a tivo (e.g. locals didn't appear in the guide as an option for a few hours at least).  But at least it is working fine so far as I can tell!

Glad to hear it! The system should be pretty much fully populated within 12 hours of c&d'ing.  For those impatient about the locals being viewable, you can call directv and if you have a 3 digit ext on your screen, enter that and they can re-send the card data, or you can talk to someone and they can re-send it as well.  It only takes a few minutes and it sure beats waiting hours for them to come in.

Yes- I've done that in the past, if you get someone with dtv on the telephone, you can simply ask them to execute a resend.....but I had to go to bed anyway- so I opted to let it get the info while I got some sleep!

She's runnin great today...all channels are in and more and more of the future data is populated.

 Thanks to all!
