I'm close to getting the ptvupgrade for the HR10-250. But, I have a somewhat dumb question. I understand that the software that will be on the replacement drive will be 3.1.1e. Currently our HR10-250 is version 3.1.5f. Version 3.1.5d gave us huge problems, which version 3.1.5e corrected (I have no clue what 3.1.5f did).

So, in essence, I'll be "downgrading" the software. What do I "lose" in doing this? I.e., has there been any reported problems of people losing satellite input connectivity (which was the problem 3.1.5d caused) in going "back" to 3.1.1e? Is there any sort of change log from 3.1.1e --> 3.1.5f so that I can see what we'd lose?

This is really the only thing holding me back from getting the ptvupgrade!

PTVupgrade replacement drive kits for the HR10-250 use 3.1.5f

If you order a PTVnet kit for your HR10-250, the daily call is turned "off" but it can be turned "on" very easily. We can set this for you "by default" after you place your order (just send us an email asking us to do so along with your order information), or you can just ask in the technical support forum and we'll tell you how (you need to be comfortable using telnet to do so).

Having the call turned on will allow you to do everything you do today, including PPV from the remote, as your unit will dial in an report PPV events to DirecTV and you will be billed normally. The only potential downside to having the call turned on is that if there is an upgrade from 3.1.5f to something newer, you will receive it, and the PTVnet functionality we've installed will be overwritten.

Thanks for the prompt answers to my questions regarding the phone line! :)

Can you also give me your thoughts about my questions in the first post -- regarding the 3.1.1e version versus the current versions that ship with the HR-10?

You are comparing "apples and oranges" -- 3.1.1e is for Series2 SD units, 3.1.5f is for Series2 HD units.
