I am trying to figure out what exactly I need to do to upgrade with my new 250GB drive to PTVnet. I'm also using Vonage for my phone service so my unit cannot connect to Dirctv via the initial phone call.

I did a search on the software version but a few things are not clear, thus I have not downloaded any iso's yet.

My understanding now is that I need to

1. install Instant Cake version 6.2
2. install the PTVnet upgrade
3. install the drive and off I go (hopefully)

One of the posts I read gave me the impression that I needed to do the PTVnet install first then the Instant Cake.

Wrong order...

Boot with the PTVnet CD - supply the InstantCake CD when prompted, install the drive and off you go.

If you are only using InstantCake, you wil still need to make a phone call as a clear and delete everything is required after you install the drive in your TiVo. Please see the release notes for more details.

Nevres -

Clearly, you've left some information/background out. Not certain what this has to do with initial question in this thread; or what the problem you are having actually is. If you are unclear about what InstantCake does, or considering going the route of PTVnet or a pre-upgraded drive (is that what you are implying); I'd recommend a few things:

1) take another look at the product descriptions, and read them, patiently

2) if you have additional questions, please post in the 'product information and upgrade advice' area, not the technical support area (or to a thread which is not related to the questions you may have.

Thx

I got'r done!

After spending more time reviewing the sample setup screens and got the order correct.

I rolled thru the download process, disk creation, and install without a hitch. I am now running the 250 GB drive in my new unit.

Up next, I will be trying the "wired" network setup!
