Adding a drive later is not a function of InstantCake (unless you are using InstantCake to rebuild as a dual drive system). If you manually added the second drive yourself, its a function of the disk you used for booting and runnign mfsadd; it sounds like the one you used does not have an LBA48 kernel.

Still having problems!

Note: My Bios was having some trouble reading slave drive sizes properly, so I loaded the drives as hda and hdc, and modified PTVBake variables PTVupgradeA and PTVupgradeB appropriately. I do not believe this has anything to do with the problems I have, but I thought it worth mentioning.[/SIZE]

I was able to successfully run InstantCake on both drives and get a reported number of hours of 580 (2x250gig) but now my Tivo will not boot. It gets to the second screen "starting tivo in a few minutes" and reboots after about 2 minutes on this screen.

For comparison, I tried the old harddrive which booted with no problems, so its definitely a drive related issue. I tried switching the drives and running InstantCake with them imaged in a reversed manner, but the exact same problem occurs. I've run complete surface scans of both drives and replaced all cables with no change.

What do I do next?

Phew! I finally found the problem! Apparantly I was setting the jumper for the slave wrong...

Stupid mistake I know, but in my defense...

I've been setting jumpers on HD's for years and usually the first switch is master and the second switch is slave... I confirmed this by seeing the MA and SL initials underneath the switches, so I never bothered to read the 9 sets of pin diagrams (whoever heard of 9 sets of pin diagrams on a drive?) and apparantly the drive has a special 'limit to 32 gig mode' which I've never even heard of... and all this time I was blaming the BIOS.

It brings me to wonder though, why would you buy a 250 gig harddrive and enable the 'limit to 32 gig' mode? Maybe I'm missing something but that seems useless.
