I want to save the original drive, so I assume I'd buy a new drive and run InstantCake on it. The thing I'm not sure about is PTVnet. Do I need to run that as well, or does InstantCake inclue the PTVnet stuff?

InstantCake builds basic replacement drive kits. PTVnet adds network functionality. In your case, you'd need both. Start with PTVnet and supply the InstantCake CD when PTVnet asks you to.
