the PTV upgrade and the Directv system is now on the network - thanks. 3 questions:
1. in accessing the linux system, what / where directory / hd / folder are the recorded shows stored / saved and how are they named?
2. once the files are located how does one select and FTP? the files over to other windows xomputer on the network?
3. are there any special tools or hacks (linux or windows) that are needed to transfer the files / decrypt them / make them available to be archived to DVD and later played?
in advance, thanks for the help.
Recorded programming is encrypted and stored on a filesystem with a proprietary format; Media File System (MFS). You can't just telnet or ftp to the unit and access the files through normal *nix methods. Yes there are special tools and techniques that will allow you to do this, however its beyond the scope of PTVnet and what we do; check out www.dealdatabase.com for information on that (or search around here as others have posted some information).
