Not sure what you mean. Are you plugging your tivo into the usb port on your cable modem while your netgear switch is plugged into the ethernet jack? That will cause your modem to ask for two ip addresses and the cable company will freak out.

You didn't mention in your post which adapter you're using on the tivo, but frankly you're almost always better off using a network bridge instead of a wireless adapter. Also, what software version do you have, have you already done the ptvupgrade correctly, etc.

the 2 diff setup 1 that works and 1 that dont

Givens:

1. Same 15' CAT 5 Patch Cable (Tested and works on many different devices)
2. Linksys USB200m (Link lights green on all setups and tested on a seperate laptop and connected to the internet without any problems.

Setup #1 Which Works

1. Links USB200m connected to the DirecTV Tivo 10-250 with patch cord pluged into a netgear switch model fs116 which has a netconnection about 100 ft away into a motorola surfboard cable modem. get an ip address fine and able to access the tivo hard drive either with http or ftp and see all hd partitions and recorded programs and upload to computer, play and modify etc without any problems.

problem with the above setup is that i will exceed the allowed number of ip addresses, and the cost of additional devices is not cost effective

Setup #2 Which Does NOT Work

1. Linksys USB 200m connected to the DirecTV Tivo 10-250 with patch cord pluged into one of the 4 ports on the back of my Microsoft MN-700 wireless router, which is connected to the interned to the internet with the same motorola surfboard cable modem 100 ft away.

With the above connection the wireless router says it gave an IP address to the 10-250 directv tivo (i know this to be true because it shows the same mac address as with setup #1 above, although both ip address are different, as the wireless router creates a seperate segment.

but when i try to either ping or http or ftp to the address given, nothing is found, although it still shows up in the list of attached devices attached to the router (although microsoft claims that 200 devices can get connected by there router I only have 2 devices on when i make this test)

one additional piece of information. i took a directv series 1 ptv upgraded unit with one of there network adpt's that you install on the tivo mother at it attached directly to the mn-700 router without any problems

had the 10-250 not worked directly attached to the cable modem i would have suspected that it was the ptv hd, but now my only conclusion would be the router

hope that the above clears up the confusion

tensor 3/25 post

tensor posted that the microsoft wireless router did not like the long file name the ptv assigns to the series 2 setup, but that a smaller one does work fine. if this is correct how do you go about changing the device name?

being as i bought the hd directly from ptv with the setup already installed, and that i'm able to get it mounted on the net, would ptv be able to do the necessary fix by attaching to it?

this is the name that ptv used for the 10-250 upg

"PTVupgrade-TiVo-Series2"

according to the poster that determine the fix for the mn-700 wireless router connection problem, it needs to be shortened.
