How to get "View" link to work? I just setup my PTV kit for my DirecTivo with 6.2. I see the "view" link on the TivoWebplus. I've enable the TyShowLinks in the tivoweb.cfg file. I keep reading about needing to install "vserver" now. Can someone please help or direct me to some current instructions on how/where to install vserver, and what is the current version?? I'm not too familar with FTP or Telnet, but I learn fast. It doesn't seem too hard. I just can't find current, clear instructions on where and how to get vserver. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Streaming from DirecTivo

Check out this thread on the other forum. Download the version appropriate to your unit; vserver can be found in the Unified mfs_* tools. You may also have to install the tyshow codec to stream to WMP.

Thanks, dj. I'm using Windows, but I'll see if I can figure out how to get this to work. Thanks for the pointer...

Sorry if I wasn't more clear - vserver goes on your tivo and the codec is for Windows (WMP = Windows Media Player.)

"View" link still not working

I have taken the following steps to be able to view streaming content from my DTivo (Hughes SD DVR40 w/ PTVNet upgrade kit hard drive replacement) on my Windows PC:

1. Installed vserver from thread indicated above in djl's post.
a. placed MIPS vserver file in ptvupgrade/bin.
b. added following lines to my /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author file (via Hackman)
#start vserver
/ptvupgrade/bin/vserver &
c. edited /ptvupgrade/tivowebplus-pre2/modules/hackman.cfg and replaced "--unavailable--" with "/ptvupgrade/bin/vserver" in the 'set vserverpathname' line.

2. Rebooted and confirmed vserver is running via both Hackman listing and via 'ps -ax' command at the bash-2.02# prompt in telnet.

3. Installed tyshow codec (tried both beta 3 & beta 4).

4. Enabled 'View' link in Now Showing page by editing /ptvupgrade/tivowebplus-pre2/tivoweb.cfg (via Hackman) and setting TyShowLinks = 1

5. Noted that above view link references: http://192.168.0.9/asx/109878.asx and brings up WMP which results in error message w/ following error signature:

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: tysplitter.ax
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000013e3

(When vserver is not running, WMP merely closes after opening without any error message)

6. Ensured my proxy port blocking/NAT is not involved as I took myself out of that config - with no change in result.

What am I missing?
Thanks!

Go over to dealdatabase.com and start searching and reading on how to patch tivoapp so that you can use those additional tools. I don't recommend you go over there and ask the question, just go searching and do your reading and you should find what you are looking for...

Any luck?

I am about to install the superpatch on a PTVupgrade kit that I just bought for my Phillips DSR704 and the last thing i want to do is wipe out the network connectivity. Any advice?

Did you get the correct version for your TiVo? Series 1 units use the PPC version, while Series 2 units use the MIPS version.

HR10-250, Samsung SIR-S4120R, SIR-S4080R, 2 Philips DSR704s (one connected to a Slingbox A/V). One box used the "Zipper"; rest used PTVnet to enable networking features.

My PTVupgrade installation was working great when "viewing DTV" it selects Media Player 10 which I had installed.  However, due to some corrupted files on a crash recovery, I had a messed up Media Player 10 which could not be fully uninstalled or reinstalled, so I installed Media Player 11 Beta 2.  Works fine = except when attempting to view (stream) - it gives the message "protocol not supported"   Microsoft system directs to some settings - which were already set they way they instructed.

Anyone have any experience/suggestions with medial player 11 ?

I'm using MP11 (I think it might be GA now?) with vserver and it plays just fine.

Maybe dl the latest mp11 and see if that helps.
