I just purchased a new unit for the bedroom and it has an 80gb HD. I want to use InstantCake to upgrade a new 160GB and install. But, this model isn't listed under models in the list. Can it be used? Here is the model: Samsung SIR 4080R

We've updated the cart to list the SIR 4080R, as well. This uses the same software as the other two models. If you want to utilize the entire 160GB of your drive (as opposed to 137GB) consider combining your order and utilizing the PTVnet311e product; even if you don't connect to your network, you can still use the LBA48 functionality which will utilize the full capacity of your drive.

I downloaded ICAKE-S2DT today. Was that the wrong one? I want the full 160gb of HD space. Should I sownload the one you mentioned in the thread? Please advise before I Bake this HD to oblivion!

If you want the full 160GB of HD space you need BOTH PTVnet 311e AND InstantCake. Take a look at the release notes for InstantCake (s2dt) here and read the section on drive sizes and it should all make sense.

OK. I'll download the PTVNet one too but as soon as this new unit gets online with D* it will upgrade to 6.2. Will the new PTVNet CD be an upgrade or a do-over?

Before you download ANYTHING more, please read the product information regarding PTVnet in full. In your case, if you use the CD for its "LBA48-ness" and then let the unit upgrade to 6.2 its fine; you will lose the PTVnet features, but the LBA48 abilities built into 6.2 will replace the LBA48 kernel you install as part of the PTVnet installation. Alternatively, you can actually USE the PTVnet abilities as well, and supress your upgrade to 6.2, but that is up to you.

Well, this has not been fun today. I purchased and downloaded both the InstantCake SIRS 4040-3.1.1e-01-2-381.iso and the PTVNet311e.iso and burned each to separate CD's. I hooked the CDROM to Primary Slave and the new 160GB Maxtor HD to Secondary Master. Nothing else was hooked to the PC. I booted on the PTVNet CD and followed the instructions as shown on your support pages. It asked if I was configuring a new drive with InstantCake and I replied yes and it proceeded. After it directed me to place the InstantCake CD into the CDROM, it proceeded to restore the image etc. All looked normal. At the end it asked me if I wanted to Expand the drive (yes) and add a 127MB Swap File (yes) and then it asked me if I wanted to install Telnet (yes), FTP (yes) and TIVOtoGO (yes). I elected to keep upgrades enabled (so D* would upgrade it to 6.2 eventually) but Disable Phone calls. Then it proceeded to the end and told me to take the drive out of the PC and install it into the TIVO unit. I did that and then it just stays on "Welcome Powering Up..." forever (1+ hrs). I did the entire process three times and got the same results three times. After I reinstalled the original drive (WD 80GB), it said "Welcome Powering up..." for 2 minutes and then proceeded to boot and load to normal DirecTV operations.

The DirecTV DVR unit was installed one day ago by DirecTV and the Maxtor 160gb HD is brand new drive I took out of a sealed retail box. It tested fine with Maxblast 4 after I took it out of the box. The only thing i don't know about is during the InstantCake/PTVNet process, it was asking about setting the Flags but right above it there were a couple of lines of code displayed that basically ended with "No such flags found". It went by so fast I did not get to copy the full line of code. Basically, I think there is a problem in the ISO but I have no way of reading it. Here is the file structure of the ISOs:

PTVNet CD: AutoRun.inf, PTStart.exe, ISOLINUX (8 files 10.6MB) Bootable CD (2 files 64.0KB)

InstantCake CD: Autorun.inf, PTstart.exe, License.txt, GPL.txt, _IMAGES (2 files 310MB), _LIVE (2 files 448KB), ISOLINUX (8 files 25.8MB), Bootable CD (2 files 64.0KB).

Now what should I do?

Head over to the technical support area of the forum for more information on PTVnet support; it sounds like you may have jumpered the drive incorrectly - the errors you are seeing would be an indication of that. Also note, TiVoToGo is not part of the PTVnet product.
