Hello:

I am new at this so I do appreciate your pateince. :)

I have a DirecTivo model SD-DVR40 and would like to enable the USB ports. I used the search function on this site to search for topics such as "enable USB" and "SD-DVR40." While some of the threads mention the USB port being diabled, I have had no luck finding an answer to how to enable the USB port.

In reading the threads, it seems the InstantCake does not enable USB; true or false?

I am simply interested in enabling USB in order to move some of the existing recorded programs off of the unit and onto my computer.

Many thanks in advance,

-Steve

PTVnet enables USB ports

Please see the two "sticky" threads at the top of this forum. You can use a pre-configured PTVnet drive, or the PTVnet DIY utility to enable USB ports. Archiving videos to your PC involves a lot more than that, however PTVnet will give you telnet/ftp access to your TiVo so you can install additional tools and applications as needed.

Thanks for the info:

I looked at the threads and in one reply it was mentioned that the PTVnet upgrade is not available yet for ver6.2. If this is correct, what are my options?

Thanks,

-Steve

Correct, no 6.2 version yet.

If you are game to go with PTVnet, best bet is to go with the 311e version. If you are already running 6.2 you'll need to downgrade using something like InstantCake or your own backup, first. (or purchase a pre-configured kit).

Not a lot of hack/app support for 6.2; 311e is the platform of choice.
